30 Seconds To Mars cover Kanye West's "Stronger", make it weaker
Jared Leto’s band 30 Seconds To Mars have been in the country recently. They visited Jo Whiley’s Live Lounge last week and performed a set – including a cover of Kanye West’s Daft Punk-sampling smash hit, “Stronger”.
You can give their version a listen here or here. My verdict is that it kind of loses all of the bluster that makes Kanye’s version so irresistible, and ends up being – dare I say it – a tad boring. What do you reckon?

OK, here’s my opinion, for what it’s worth…
This song, performed by Jared & Co, is so much more, dare I say it – emotional, compelling, and (forgive me for being a girl…) sexy!
Jareds voice fits it so well, and it’s a great showcase for his vocals.
I never gave Kanye’s version any time, but this 30STM version is now a firm favourite.
its completely different from the original one. Only real good artist and musician that can play can pull it off like they did. it’s ok to prefer the original one but to say it sucks it means ppl not knowing anything about accoustic performances or real music in general.jared well done!!
I think it comes across as a brilliant cover. What’s the point in making a cover if you make it sound exactly like the original? That said, I do prefer the 30 Seconds To Mars cover over the original. Kanye West was never really my cup of tea, to be honest I don’t care for the original at all.
Stronger in the 30STM version has been playing non-stop on my ipod, my car stereo and my laptop since I first heard it. Jareds Letos voice and the whole arrangement of the cover makes it an amazing experience.

I think their cover is WAY BETTER than the original. EVERYTHING about 30STM’s version of the song sounds more interesting, catching, sofisticated & melodic than Kanye’s one. PERIOD.

OMG OMG OMG !!! I love this song. I hate the others versions. I am loving 4 guys there and beyond cardboards. They made of this song, a true leader of work. Jared has never sing as well and his voice is sublimate.

I loved this as soon as i herd it. I dont listen to Kanye West so it was a first for me. It was so beautiful and sung with real emotion. This really show cased Jareds vocal range to its fullest, and shows he can sing well when hes not belting out a tune. I have no preference either is good for me.

If you are such an awesome critic, what is your claim to successes to be able to pass professional judgement to condemn something. When a person has never travelled down a path before, and has no clue what it takes, just be quiet, watch and observe. One can learn something or two.
After all, it is nice to see people succeed and cheer them on… if or when a person have a good idea to help makes things even better, share it with the specific details on HOW to make things even better… don’t knock it and trample on it with critical negative useless opinions.
Well, I’ve heard both: the original and the cover, and I have to say 30stm’s version is AMAZING! It’s so emotional and beautiful. Jared’s voice is at its best, the guitar lines are great. What more can we want? It’s pointless to make cover sound the same as the original, so I think they did a REALLY good job. Keep up the great work guys! Lova ya!

And well…i was actually really blown away! i really did not like kanye wests version, 30stm have changed it for the better….jared sounds so good, his voice does it justice…he sings….not talks or ‘raps’ which kanye would call ‘singing’! I believe that 30STM cover for Kanye West is very interesting version of the song.
It’s more atmospheric, melodic, artistic and a skilfully made revision (remake) of the original song… That’s my opinion as a musician and many musicians I know agree with me to that.
when i first listened to their song i almost cried..really..jared created a fantastic varsion of this song and he is completely rewrited it!his voice is amazing to this song and he is very talented…
30 Seconds to Mars makes the song Stronger, stronger. It has passion and feeling in it whereas Kanye’s lacks both. Creatively redone Jareds voice carrys magic across the airwaves. It’s mesmerizing and magical. I love the 30 STM version and hope to be able to get a copy of it to play everywhere I go!
All i have to say is: This Version is great! I love the virsion from 30 Seconds to Mars much more then the original. This Song have so much feeling and the sound can not be better.
I think that all versoins need to be different to fit everyones taste and 30STM made it more appealing to anyone who hated the original and they did a great job doing so!

I love the song “Stronger” I put it up on my Myspace the day it came out! I think that 30 Seconds to Mars took a song that had little emotion and turned it into a song full of feeling! They did such a wonderful job! They are are awesome!

when i first heard stronger (by kanye west), i hate to admit it, but it kind of became a guilty pleasure…then when i heard the 30 seconds to mars version, i LOVED it…their version gave the song a whole new meaning. it became a different song and lots of people are saying that they ccompletely destroyed the song but i say, number 1, fuck you! and number 2, they didn’t wreck it, they re-invented it and i say props to anyone who can make an already “hit” song into a whole new song that’s just as good if not better.
in conclusion, i know that 30 seconds to mars has rightfully earned their status that they have and if they want to cover a song, let them, because we know it will be good. and if you don’t feel that way then don’t listen.
i think 30′s rendition was compelling, sexy, and breath taking. they did an amazing job. kanye’s yes is the original and also amazing but give jared and the guys a break cuz they did it their way and ur all mad cuz it came out incredibly
Are you kidding me. Kanye’s version irresistible whatever. This version belows the orginal out of the water because 30stm make it a song not just a load of words put together and spoken at speed cuz that is all rap is, rap is not singing. This version is haunting emotional and atmospheric and the Listener can really connect to that in ways they can not with the rap version.

I love both versions. I think they are totally different and are equally beautiful. 30 Seconds to Mars does all diferent types covers showing their love for all different types of music and puts their own spin on them and this is no different. I believe this is a honor to Kanye because they only do covers of song that they love and of artists they they greatly appreciate. They are not trying to do anything but show their love for a great song. So insted of makeing fun of them why don’t people let artists be artists and if you don’t like it leave it be and find something you do like.

First of all. 30STM delivered that song PERFECTLY. He sang that song with a PASSION and that only the TRUE FANS know. Don’t get me wrong I do like Kanye’s version but now that I heard 30STM, I give it 2 thumbs up and then some.

I normally do not do this, but I am so fed up with people having opinions ready for everything!!!! Get a live. 30STM has a great family (and don’t start thinking of the cult thing again, please!!!!!!!!!), and we support them through the good and the bad, like a good family does. And personally I think the cover was GREAT!!!! If you don’t like it (or them), then don’t listen to it (or them). Do you think we care?!? But leave everyone in their value. There are so many bands to support, choose the oneS you like, and go to their shows, and buy their cd’s, etc, etc, etc, and again leave everyone in their value. If we all had the same taste, what a boring planet this would be.

The cover that 30 Seconds To Mars did of Stronger i think is so much better then the original its more emotional and sexy then Kanye’s. I heard Kanye’s version and within 45 seconds i put Jared’s version on. Within four days it was in my top 25 most played on my ipod. I don’t think of it like a cover i think of it like 30STM made it. And if anyone has a problem step up to the echelon.

I agree with the writer. This is a very boring song. It has no punch to it. Even if this was an original song and not a cover it would still be boring.
Before anyone responds and says I don’t know anything about music, I haven’t said anything about the musicians. Just specifically this song. It is boring. It is not hard to take the lyrics from a song and stick them in your own arrangment. It is difficult to take a song and tweak it therefore giving it a new lease of life. Much like Kanye West did with the original.
Stronger just touches ur heart like someone would with his hands…music is for listening and enjoying…it doesnt matter from whom it is, what matters is if u like it or not, tastes are always relative and always will be, so give it a rest and love what u love and let others love what they want!!
