Radio 1 says sorry after Jo Whiley scam
Radio 1 and Jo Whiley have apologised after a member of staff posed as a phone-in competition caller on her show. The swines! The horror that is coursing through my veins now… you could bottle it.
The incident happened during a pre-recorded section of her show on April 20 last year. Whiley, who has gone from trustworthy Evening Session DJ to pop shill, usually presents her late-morning show live, but on the April 20 show part of it was pre-recorded so she could be at the opening of the refurbished Broadcasting House in London with the Queen. Is it the Queen’s fault! To the tower with her!
In a statement the BBC said: “A pre-recorded section of Radio 1′s Jo Whiley Show on April 20 2006 featured a phone competition in which a member of BBC staff posed as a caller from the audience. The incident came to light following the recent publication of further editorial breaches. A number of staff members have been disciplined. We would like to make clear that Jo Whiley was unaware that the caller was not a genuine member of the public. The BBC Trust’s Editorial Standards Committee have been informed of this today.”
