A Sufjan Stevens song is not just for Christmas

sufjan.gifSufjan Stevens has some form in the Christmas market, after last year’s rather generous Songs For Christmas box set, and this year he’s come up with another humdinger of a gift for his fans. How does owning the rights to one of his compositions sound?
Only one person will be able to enjoy this gift, mind you. How? Here’s how! You submit one of your original songs, and the people at Asthmatic Kitty records pick the best one. The winner then swaps the rights to their song for the rights to one of Sufjan’s! Pretty sweet idea, I reckon. Aren’t our favourite musicians generous these days?

So while you may lose ownership of one of your own-handcrafted gems, you can decide what you want to do with Sufjan’s song. Want to sell it to Honda? Well, if they’re interested, you can. Want to use it to soundtrack your YouTube-posted mental breakdown? No probs! You can even stash it away somewhere and play it to nobody, ever.
The contest is open now and ends 1st December, so you can send them last night’s drunken prog-jazz “jam session” right now if you want.
