algreen.jpgToo many singers from the sixties nervously look at the pop world around them and think to themselves, “Hell I gots to git down wit’ those kids man! I’m being left behind!”. And so we end up with Tom Jones singing ‘Sex Bomb’ and other horrendous team-ups. It’s irked me that they don’t get down with those that understand what made the artist so great in the first place… but wait… what’s that? Al Green – step forward and take a bow.
Yep, the smoothest singer of soul, the Reverend Al Green, has returned with a new album called Lay It Down, which comes out May 27 via Blue Note. So who has he teamed up with? None other than the brilliant ?uestlove, head honcho of The Roots. Not only that, but James Poyser (Roots/Lauryn Hill) is at the controls.

?uestlove plays drums on Lay It Down, and that’s not all – other contributors include Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, and Corinne Bailey Rae, as well as horn group the Dap-Kings. Green will hit the road in support of the LP… and we’ll give you the news when we get it.
