Serbia's Exit festival: where you can see Sex Pistols and Gogol Bordello rock an ancient fortress

They do things differently on the continent, don’t they? For one thing, they hold awards ceremonies in “military clubs”. And when it comes to festivals, we’re talking the ancient Petrovaradin Fortress. For that is where Serbia’s already legendary Exit Festival takes place in a town called Novi Sad, which overlooks the River Danube.
Apparently 10,000 British folk made it down to south-east Europe for last year’s event, which included performances from The Prodigy, Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg and Richie Hawtin among many others. Peter Hook put it quite well when asked about Exit: “I’ve never seen a better way to ruin an 18th Century fortress. F*ck the past, here’s to the future!”
Artists confirmed at this year’s event so far include Sex Pistols, Gogol Bordello, The Hives, Sven Vath and Paul Weller, with what you can bet will be dozens more to be announced soon. It claims to boast 600 performances on 25 stages, after all.
Tickets for the 4-day festival are a scandalously bargaintastic
