Scott Weiland leaves Velvet Revolver! So who should Slash recruit next?
It’s all over the internet – Scott Weiland has left ageing rockers Velvet Revolver. It seems the mardy one has bunked off so he can join his old group, Stone Temple Pilots, again. Hands up if you saw that coming a mile off? There’ve been stories of dressing room rumbles, ego tussles and on-stage quarrels. Of the rumpus, Slash released the following statement:
“This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn’t 100% committed to either. Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behaviour and personal problems have forced us to move on.” Now, Velvet Revolver have claimed that they’re going to carry on the band. However, with Slash and Duff (formerly of Guns ‘n’ Roses, of course) continually having lead-singer troubles, they might need some help in the recruitment drive. Read over for my suggestions.
Amy Winehouse/Pete Doherty – After the troubles with drugs and Scott Weiland, I feel that Velvet Revolver might benefit from someone a little more sensible when it comes to intake. Pete Doherty is the obvious choice for someone clean-living, but Winehouse might provide a refreshing change of sex on the mic for the rockers.
Courtney Love – Slash clearly needs to sidle up with someone who is mentally stable and not in the habit of playing mind games with band members. I can’t think of anyone better than the former Hole and Cobain-boffer.
Anyone from Sugababes – Slash and Duff must be sick of being in bands that break up… so why not take on a Sugababe? Their unchanged line-up of 10 years is a perfect example of harmonious bandliness. A pop-edge could see Slash making the pages of Heat too! It’s win-win!
Daniel O’Donnell – If Slash and Duff want to tread the well-worn path of egomania, hard drugs, fast women and fist-fights in bars, then Dan’s yer man. A band with O’Donnell would prove that some rock ‘n’ roll flames are built to burn brightly, but not last for very long.
