Mercury Music Prize nominations announced: I can just about summon the energy to back Neon Neon
Do you know anyone who’s ever placed a bet on the Mercury Music Prize? The odds for each artist always seem to be the main focus of the award, for some reason – it’s become less a prize awarded for artistic merit, more some kind of weird music-related version of the Grand National.
I wonder if that’s the real reason the music industry is making less money these days – record company execs throwing moolah at the tastiest action each year? I’m sure The Brits isn’t anticipated with such Paddy Power-friendly interest each year.
I can barely summon the energy to care about the list of nominees, let alone who will win. And I can’t reeeally be bothered to get on my high horse about why it’s not worth caring about, either. Perhaps I just need a holiday.
