filthy_dukes_this_rhythm.jpgHave you seen BBC3′s Being Human yet? It’s rather good. The vampire man trapped in a suburban life in a nice semi in Bristol does this thing when he’s about to gnash someone’s neck. His pupils go all big and black and take up his entire eyeballs. Well creepy it is.
And look, the lady in Filthy Dukes‘ brillo new video does the same! Only, she does it because she is quite literally “so lost inside this rhythm”. Is being lost inside a rhythm a good thing? A bad thing? Filthy Dukes neatly sidestep this issue, preferring to concentrate on knocking out a top-notch ‘peche Mode-y gothclub banger.

And quite right. That is what they are here for. What do they care about good and bad, right and wrong?
In the absence of any kind of moral guidance from Filthy Dukes, I will guide you through all the elements you need to weigh up should you ever find yourself lost inside a rhythm. First watch the not-very-terrifying vid:

Filthy Dukes – This Rhythm from Filthy Dukes on Vimeo.
For the young lady in the video, being lost inside this rhythm is probably good for the here’n'now. It means she is casting off thoughts of all her problems in order to fully enjoy this pulsating number. It doesn’t matter that her student loan is going to be with her until she is 37. It doesn’t matter that her shoes hurt. It doesn’t matter that her workplace won’t let her check her Facebook at work. Do you hear? NONE OF THAT MATTERS. Because she is lost inside this rhythm right now.
What about long term, though? What if she is unable to escape from this rhythm? It is true that rhythm is a dancer, but it is also a mystery, so who knows what she will find while she’s in there?
What if this rhythm is full of bees? What if it smells like bad milk? What if this rhythm never lets her go, and soon enough not being able to access her Facebook at work is the least of her problems?
Because she has been SACKED. Sacked for either not escaping this rhythm in time to make it into work, or worse, arriving at the office but doing so while trapped inside this rhythm. She’s jerking around all over the place, she’s knocked the shelf off the photocopier, she’s bumped into the HR lady who was shepherding a nice mug of green tea back to her desk. She should never have got lost inside this bloody rhythm.
This song sounds amazing live, by the way. It is released on 9th March, with their debut album “Nonsense In The Dark” following a week later.
