idlewild Lodestar lineup leaked Not really leaked, actually, but it was the best we could do to keep the headline alliterative. Anyway, the lineup for laid-back Cambridge-based folk festival Lodestar has been announced. Highlights include Idlewild (you know, the ones with the whiny but catchy American English song) and The Rakes headlining on Saturday 1st September, and Badly Drawn Boy, who - no joke - MCT once mistook for a tramp in the middle of London, working the crowd on the Sunday.
The full line-up is available here.

twang Happening this weekend: Middlesbrough Music Live (its free!)
If you happen to be in the Teesside area this weekend you would be a fool - a fool, I say! - not to check out this year’s Middlesbrough Music Live. Apparently funded entirely by the local council (are you reading, Barnet?) the free one-day event has a tradition of featuring soon-to-be-huge acts; recent years have seen Razorlight, Keane and Editors grace the stage.

Portishead All Tomorrows Parties Nightmare Before Christmas line upAll Tomorrow’s Parties Nightmare Before Christmas, being held at Butlin’s in Minehead, Somerset from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th December and being curated by Portishead (who will also perform) has announced the first acts.
Confirmed are Aphex Twin, Julian Cope, Black Mountain, Sparklehorse, Oneida, Seasick Steve, as well as Team Brick, Crippled Black Phoenix, and Fuzz Against Junk from Geoff Barrows Invada label. This is of course in addition to Portishead who will not only curate the event but also play exclusively at it. Let’s be honest. This looks like it will be the event of the year!

The rooms - which offer either double, single or bunk beds with private bathroom and TV, but no kitchen facilities or lounge (more like a hotel room) - are now only available to book as 4 or 5 berths, and work out at

Country Joe MacDonald @ Woodstock

To me, more than Hendrix, The Who… Country Joe MacDonald’s performance at Woodstock is the archetypal festival performance. His rousing rendition of ‘I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ To Die’ struck a bigger chord than Jimi’s histrionics and certainly unified more people than Pulp singing Common People. Watch and sing-a-long!

ms sleepingbag M&S hippie sleeping bagThe festival season is well and truly ready to pop… Have you got all your camping gear sorted? If you haven’t, or maybe you just want some new stuff, you may be interested in this ace floral sleeping bag… and you may be surprised that encouraging you hippies to spend a night under the stars is none other than Marks & Spencer.
It’s part of a range of kit in this 70s-style floral design, which also includes a tent - although that seems to be aimed at children, so probably not ideal for your time trying to sleep next to the dance tent / toilets. The sleeping bag is full-size and lined, made from a cotton and polyester mix and easily folded up when not in use. Going for a reasonable

THAT Nirvana performance from Reading ‘92

Video

Perhaps the most famous and incredible festival performance of the past decade or so is Nirvana’s headlining spot at Reading in 1992. The show had everything… Cobain faking his own death / collapse… attitude… unity… chaos… and most importantly - the tunes. Watch in awe as they scream through Aneurysm while at the peak of their powers. Amazing.
