Happening this weekend: Middlesbrough Music Live (it’s free!)

If you happen to be in the Teesside area this weekend you would be a fool - a fool, I say! - not to check out this year’s Middlesbrough Music Live. Apparently funded entirely by the local council (are you reading, Barnet?) the free one-day event has a tradition of featuring soon-to-be-huge acts; recent years have seen Razorlight, Keane and Editors grace the stage.
This year Birmingham lad-rockers The Twang headline, but with Tony Christie on the bill as well the line-up has quite an eclectic feel. Also appearing are The Dub Pistols, joined by the seemingly ageless Terry Hall. Lesser names to watch out for include The Hours and - my tip - glam-influenced rockers Switches, whose rollicking “Lay Down The Law” has been a regular on my MP3 player for a few months now.
One negative - you’re not allowed to take your own booze, so you may want to prepare to be overcharged for plastic beakers of warm beer. We’re pretty much used to that by now though, I reckon…
