Amy Winehouse gives stunning performance, then quits touring
Interesting review of La Wino’s recent Brighton gig on the Channel 4 Music Blog yesterday. By their account she was outstanding, and any walk-offs and the like were part of the show - something the papers conveniently ignored in their reports.
Also, the writer gets sentence of the year from me, after describing one particular vocal effect as something that:
…hit us squarely between the eyes then simultaneously expanded into our chest and juddered down our spine, before fizzing into our kneecaps and turning whatever substance that keeps our legs upright into the consistency of chocolate mouse.
And breeeathe.
The rapturous review will only increase the disappointment for ticket-holders when they hear that Amy has cancelled all touring commitments. She says it’s because she can’t go on without her husband (who’s currently banged up), while her record company say it’s because of “health issues”. It must be the outcome promoters have been dreading, but when you consider the damage she could do to herself on the road, maybe it’s for the best, eh? And yes, I am a doctor.
