susigreent Can You Gig It?: Mark Ronson @ Camden Roundhouse, London, 24.10.07 Another week, another gig for gig-girl-about-town - and editor of Shiny Shiny - Susi Weaser. This week The Electric Proms are kicking off in London - this is what she thought of Mark Ronson’s show.
How did you rate the venue?
I really like the Roundhouse. There are lots of bars, the toilets are dead swanky, and no matter where you stand you get a pretty decent view.
What were the crowd like?
Great. Unless you were The Coral, who must have been slightly upset when they finished their set to rapturous… silence. I’m pretty sure they were saving “Dreaming of You” for the encore, which unsurprisingly never materialised. They weren’t even that bad.

Bar – rip-off or value for money?
Value. I handed over a twenty pound note and was expecting a couple of coins – I got a tenner back. Either the drinks were cheap or the bar staff were crap at maths. Also, everyone waiting for drinks was being terribly polite. We were all pointing out the people who were at the bar before us, who then in turn pointed to the person who was before them. It was terribly heartwarming (but I think it freaked out the bar staff).

Venue staff – nice or nasty?
Freaked out. But nice.
Toilets – swilling with piss, or spick and span?
Poshest toilets I’ve ever seen at a gig. You can tell they normally host The Arts.
Highlight / lowlight of show?
“Pretty Green” was awesome. Ronson played a few self indulgent balladesque songs which were a bit rubbish, but generally the quality was high. It was also really amazing to have the full orchestra behind him as well. Because he uses a lot of instruments behind him anyway it didn’t make a massive difference to the way the songs sounded, but it made for a great atmosphere. I’d like to see someone with more of an acoustic sound backed by them to compare. In fact, I’d very much like to go and see Paul Weller, if anyone’s got a spare ticket floating around. Ta.
Any other comments?
Tickets to the show were so popular I ended up having to buy them for double the price on eBay. Could people please stop buying tickets only to sell them on eBay. Go and get a job.
