John McCain’s music taste is pretty darn gay; Barack Obama’s is bizarrely self-obsessed

Music News

abba_guy.gifBeen a while since we took a look at how US presidential candidates are using popular culture to endear them to the electorate. And what could be better than a look at what songs each candidate *hearts*?
Let’s get straight to John McCain’s faves. If John Boy was to make you a mixtape (with swirly hand-drawn inlay, I’d hope), you might find his number one choon featuring therein: Abba’s “Dancing Queen”, which also happens to be the official gayest song of all time.
*Short pause for you to picture John McCain twirling around in his bedroom to Abba, possibly while eating ice cream*

It’s not clear whether this has always been the 71-year-old’s top track, or if he just saw Mamma Mia at the flicks and thinks they’re some brand new cutting edge Swedes. He clearly digs their vibe though, because “Take A Chance On Me” comes in at number three on his list. The rest of McCain’s Top 10 is comprised of people from The Olden Days, with names like Dooley and Merle.
Barack Obama’s Top 10 is understandably more youthful, with The Fugees’ “Ready Or Not” taking the number one spot and Kanye West’s similarly pilferous “Touch The Sky” also featuring. But the clanger is his choice at number ten: “Yes I Can”, by Will.i.am.
That’s the same “Yes I Can” that was created from one of Obama’s speeches. It’s ‘orrible, it is, and Bazza reckons it’s one of the Top Ten tunes ever. Shame on he. But then kudos to the pair of them for not proclaiming to be huge Lil Wayne / Katy Perry fans, I suppose.

Millions love ABBA; it’s not just gay men who worship them. :-)

Barack Obama’s songs are more modern.

    John McCain’s top ten:
    ABBA - ‘Dancing Queen’
    Roy Orbison - ‘Blue Bayou’
ABBA - ‘Take A Chance On Me’
Merle Haggard - ‘If We Make It Through December’
Dooley Wilson - ‘As Time Goes By’
The Beach Boys - ‘Good Vibrations’
Louis Armstrong - ‘What A Wonderful World’
Frank Sinatra - ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’
    Neil Diamond - ‘Sweet Caroline’
The Platters - ‘Smoke Gets In Your Eyes’
I agree with some of these choices, and I’m nowhere near gay. In fact, I am quite possibly the most heterosexual man in all the history of all the heterosexual world, baby!!!

A union in the US did a hysterical send-up of “Dancing Queen” as a serenade to McCain-rewrote the words and gave him a free concert! Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unm7DJ0jXjI
