five o clock heroes Shoreditch Shuffle to feature Five OClock Heroes, Man Like Me, life threatening number of hipsters
If you need confirmation that the TV show Nathan Barley failed to lethally nail its target, take a wander around the Hoxton/Shoreditch area next time you’re in the capital. Ain’t nothing changed.
Which is not to say the area doesn’t have its charms, it’s just that you feel like either an urban cliche or an overdressed nob while you enjoy them. Once you get past that - and your barely suppressible hatred for everyone around you - you can have a jolly good time at the area’s numerous overpriced drinkeries, danceries and eateries.
Shoreditch Shuffle, which takes place on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of September, is a festival designed to show that east London is able to attract entertainment of some substance as well as skinny chancers in Lightspeed Champion specs.
The 2-day festival has been devised by artsy types Who’s Jack, and will cover all manner of creative nonsense across numerous venues, including Strong Rooms, 333, Elbow Rooms, Hoxton Hotel and Aquarium.

On the music bill you’ll be able catch the Agyness Deyn-fronted Five O’Clock Heroes, Man Like Me (who I can confirm are great live), Akira The Don, Little Man Tate, Mama Shamone, The Fighting Cocks and Thomas Tantrum among many others. Not a bad line-up for the £30 weekend ticket price (single day tickets are £20).
And it’s not just music, either - other eclectic delights will include:
- Cute cupcake creators The Great Cake Escape taking over the Kemistry Bar all weekend. Not sure if this means you just get to watch people baking, or what
- Event patron Pearl Lowe showing off her “fashion collection”. Has she designed these garments, or is it just some of the clobber from her wardrobe? Find out at the Elbow Rooms
- Films from Rushes Soho Shorts, including “Let Me In”, which is apparently about a cat resorting to “increasingly desperate measures to get indoors”. I’ve always wanted to see a cat eat a door, you know
