Britpop stars to go head-to-head on Weakest Link?
This news is crapola of the highest order, but I still feel the need to share it with you. Remember the days, way back when, when Britpop was in full bloom and Noel Gallagher was wishing AIDS on Damon Albarn and the cheeky cock-er-neys chirrupped back with jibes of “Quoasis”? Oh what heady days they were. Oh, and Menswear were knocking about too, inventing Nathan Barley by complete accident. Well, now we can relive those days with Anne Robinson cracking the whip.
That’s right! The Oasis/Blur rivalry could be stirred up again as TV bosses attempt to get them to compete on game show ‘The Weakest Link’. According to the Daily Star (so it is clearly the whole truth…) telly chiefs are in talks with Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn and Alex James to get them looking down the barrel of an icy stare… However, let’s have a look at who will really feature.
The programme is keen to draft in a whole host of Britpop has-beens, including Suede’s Brett Anderson, Elastica’s Justine Frischmann, Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and Manic Street Preachers frontman James Dean Bradfield. A BBC source said the show was in the early planning stages, but added: “If we can pull this off it would be unbelievable.”
Let’s be honest here. This show is probably going to happen… but Damon, Liam and Noel will almost certainly be too busy. So who should we expect? Here’s a list of likely candidates (ie, people who need the money and have the time).
Rick Witter from Shed Seven
Any of Menswear
The drummer from Supergrass
That girl from Bis
Louise Wener from Sleeper
Crispin Mills from Kula Shaker
Bez (I know he doesn’t really count, but he’ll be there… mark my words)
Her from Echobelly
