The other week she went along to Camden’s Barfly to check out charmingly-monikored gypsy-punk types The Fighting Cocks. Here is what she thunk.
How did you rate the venue?
Good n’ indie. Last time I went to the Barfly was during the Camden Crawl. It was much nicer than that time, what with it being a civilised Sunday evening.

What were the crowd like?
A mixture of hardcore Fighting Cocks groupies doing their duty of crazy dancing and crowd participation… and confused-looking people who’d never seen them before.

Was the support act any good or did it send you to the bar?
I didn’t see them, but I was told I missed something entertaining - they were Danny Fontaine & The Horns Of Fury, and they had lots of brass.
Bar - rip-off or value for money?
Pretty standard bar prices for cider in a plastic cup! Very slow though.

Venue staff - nice or nasty?
Very nice, the entry man let me in for advance ticket price - saving me 2 quid I think!
Toilets - swilling with piss, or spick and span?
Clean, but possibly the most graffitied-up toilets ever. It actually wouldn’t surprise me if they supplied pens.
Highlight / lowlight of show?
Highlight would be as ever the fabulous Fighting Cocks cheerleaders’ outfits - it was a broadly red and black theme this week as far as I could tell.
No lowlights, all fab.
Any other comments?
Only that after the Barfly had closed we went to the excellent Marathon Kebab place up the road - glammer than it sounds I promise. We sat in the back bit which is more like a restaurant. They’re open till 4 and have random brilliant live music, guitarists come and pitch up amongst the tables and everyone has a bit of a boogie. Good end to a fun night of dancing.
