Cliff Richard fans accuse Oasis of plagiarism; Beatles fans look for something else to do

Part of the fun of hearing a new Oasis album is spotting the “influences”; over the years, alongside regular “inspiration” The Beatles, the Gallaghers have used Bowie, The Velvet Underground, T-Rex and R.E.M as “muses”.
Now one of their songs from Dig Out Your Soul, “The Turning”, has been accused of ripping off Sir Clifford Richard’s lightweight misogyny classic “Devil Woman”, no less. You can check out whether the fans have a point by giving the track in question a listen at Oasis’ MySpace, where the whole of the new album is currently streaming.
Disturbing news if true, though. Is this a sign that, as they age, Oasis are beginning to choose influences less frequently recognised as part of the rock canon? I guess we won’t know until the next album comes out, when we’ll need to keep an ear out for Daniel O’Donnell hooks.
