Coldplay’s Chris Martin inadvertently makes their album promo circuit quite interesting

chris martin coldplay Coldplays Chris Martin inadvertently makes their album promo circuit quite interestingHas Coldplay’s Chris Martin cottoned on to the fact that “storming out” (I believe that’s accepted cliche) of interviews garners more publicity for his new album than just, like, answering questions?
The other week an interview with The Observer magazine described him walking out of an interview once his wife Gwyneth Paltrow came up in conversation. I actually understood why he took umbrage on that occasion, as he made the point that his marriage shouldn’t necessarily need to be used to promote a record.
His latest strop came on Radio 4 of all places, after he was asked about what the journalist took to be the band’s “lyrical obsession with death”.

Now, it’s quite possible that Chris Martin genuinely hates interviews. I wouldn’t be surprised, as he seems a somewhat anxious chap. But, personally, I only read about his latest interviews - and therefore his album - because I’d heard about his hissy fits.
Sorry, but when it comes to bands I’m not that bothered about I’m more interested when they behave badly than when they talk about their lyrical inspiration and all that stuff. No, it doesn’t feel especially good or virtuous, and yes, there probably is an element of schadenfreude. What can I say? I’m human.
Meanwhile, Viva La Vida looks set to become the biggest album of the year. And so, for Chris Martin, the vicious circle of hating interviews, walking out of them, becoming more famous, and being asked for more interviews, looks set to continue.
