Oh dear. Neil Young has made everyone go a bit mental. Why? Well, everyone has been getting rather excited over the prospect of his ‘Archives’ series. This series was to comprise of boxsets and live releases documenting his entire career through unreleased studio and live recordings. That’s everything from Buffalo Springfield through Crosby Stills Nash and Young, to solo.
Young, speaking to US publication Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young film ‘Deja Vu’ at the Sundance Film Festival, has said that the first volume will now only be presented on the new Blu-Ray format and DVD. Yep. That’s no CD, vinyl or download. Young said: “I know it’s in technical production now, but it’s only coming out on Blu-ray and DVD. There won’t be CDs. Technology has caught up to what the concept was in the first place [and] how we’re able to actually present it. But there’s no doubt it will come out this year.”

Naturally, this news has seen fans throwing their hands up in the air and wondering why they bothered in the first place (quick, go listen to “On The Beach” and everything will be okay). Some fans, on Shakey fansites, have accused the folkie of being ‘insane’. Well, we all know that Young likes to be awkward… but this is taking the biscuit. In saying that, all this attention might just see a release on a more stereo friendly format. [via Uncut]
