Ian Curtis would be so proud: Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures artwork graces Microsoft’s Zune
This would have cheered Ian Curtis up a bit, wouldn’t it? The artwork for Joy Division’s seminal album Unknown Pleasures has been appropriated by Microsoft and slapped onto its Zune music player.
Designed by Factory Records’ Peter Saville, the album’s cover art was recently voted most iconic album sleeve of all time. You can see the logic at Microsoft HQ, can’t you? Music player + iconic album art = £$£$£$.
Perhaps the irony that digital downloads are slowly ensuring the death of the album format, not to mention album cover art, was a little too rich for their blood.
