My Chemical Romance fans plan exceedingly British protest at Daily Mail
If you’re perturbed by the site of hoodied young ‘uns in black eyeliner, you may want to stay clear of Kensington, London on May 31st, people. For that is the day that hundreds of My Chemical Romance fans plan to “march on the Daily Mail’s headquarters”.
What that basically means is that they’ll sit outside looking jolly ticked off. For this is designed to be a peaceful protest - although I do wonder if having the march publicised on the Guardian’s website may invite troublemakers to go and stir things up a bit. Oh God, maybe me writing that sentence has done that. Er - don’t troublemake, anyone, OK?
The MCR fans are protesting at the unfair treatment they feel emo fans have received at the hands of the notoriously even-handed newspaper. Presumably they needed to book time outside the offices way in advance, to ensure they didn’t clash with protests by asylum seekers, gay rights activists and various other scourges of society.
Apparently organisers have urged protesters to be polite and pick up their litter. I don’t believe this to be code for “kindly dispose of your used petrol bombs and wash the blood off the pavements”, and for that we should be thankful.
