Naughty Rappers: 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige linked to trafficking of steroids
Oh dear. Wherever fame and rap go, trouble is usually sniffing around too. This time, trouble is spelled with a capital S.T.E.R.O.I.D. A year-long investigation into trafficking of illegal steroids in New York has thrown up the ‘names’ of Timbaland, 50 Cent and Mary J Blige in connection with the really not legal in any way shape or form trade. Yipes!
According to DrownedInSound, the claims emerged via “ever-murky ‘confidential sources’”, though the entertainers in question - also including Wyclef Jean - seem to be taking the matters seriously, only Blige’s representatives have come out to refute and say “Oooooh, wait a minute!” The illegal substances seem to be getting into the US through the Albany docks on the West bank of the Hudson river before being distributed through a local network of doctors’ practices, pharmacies and anti-aging clinics… and rappers… maybe.
Apparently, Blige “received multiple shipments from an Orlando pharmacy of Jentropin, a human growth hormone, and Oxandrolone, an anabolic steroid, in orders sent to her at the Beverly Hills Hotel, MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and Clay Gym in New York City” according to The Albany Times. They continue, “At least one of the orders was mailed under the name ‘Marlo Stanfield’ which is the character name of a drug kingpin on the Baltimore-based HBO crime drama The Wire.”
Is this something that’s just gonna blow over? Well, it seems that the authorities are playing hardball with the first physician, 69 year-old Ana Maria Santi, getting sent down for 3 to 6 years. What did she do? Well, she rubber-stamped hundreds of prescriptions for patients she never examined. Not only that, but a certain Dr. Gary Brandwein – the man who allegedly supplied 50 Cent and Blige as well as late wrestler Chris Benoit – is still currently on trial after pleading not guilty, reports the paper. Wowzers. Are we gonna see this lot in the clink? How about Piddly Cent rapping “the warden threw a party in the county jail…”
