New Elbow video: “Grounds For Divorce”
Elbow are one of those bands I forget how much I like. Some people paint them as dour gloom-mongers, but to me there’s a depth and sly humour at work in their music. Perhaps they appeal to the same part of me that likes The Smiths.
Every album they’ve released has had at least one song I’ve become slightly obsessed with: “Powder Blue” on Asleep In The Back, “Fallen Angel” on Cast Of Thousands and “Leaders Of The Free World” on the album of the same name. Now they’re back (ack ack ack) with their new tune “Grounds For Divorce” from forthcoming album Seldom Seen Kid. Check out the video after the jumpitude.
There’s something about this video that brings the word “bayou” to my mind - and I’m not even sure what “bayou” means. Thankfully it doesn’t quite go into “Blaze Of Glory” territory, but veers off into some beastly bass-driven passages as Guy Garvey croons from beneath his never-changing fringe. It’s nice to have them back.
