A short word about Elbow’s Nationwide Mercury Music Prize victory

Music News

Goodness, that was a bit of a surprise, wasn’t it? To me, at any rate - apparently Elbow were at 5/1 to win last night’s Nationwide Mercury Music Prize, which seem pretty short odds.
Anyway, you probably won’t find too many people begrudging the Manchester band their victory for Seldom Seen Kid. I don’t think it’s their best album, but it is good to see a band who have been around for almost twenty years in some form or other gaining a bit of recognition. And at least bloody Burial didn’t win. And Guy Garvey (left, click image to enlarge) is the closest the noughties have come to producing a new Jarvis Cocker, isn’t he?
