new kids summertime New Kids On The Blocks Summertime video illustrates that they do indeed think theyre still kids
The new video from the recently reformed New Kids On The Block is something to behold. Why? Mainly because the “kids” - in their mid to late 30s now - frolic about as if they’re in a Backstreet Boys video from 1996. Which would be cheesy enough alone, even if this didn’t make you recall that Blink 182 video which took the piss out of such clips.
The vid opens with the guys each getting a call as they get on with their workaday lives - e.g., Danny’s running through a jungle, Joey’s on a big yacht, etc. Then, like pop superheroes, they all meet up to save the world from Justin Timberlake or something.
What follows are windswept scenes on the beach, cavorting in bamboo shacks with barely legal hotties, silhouetted poses and - fuck me - a choreographed dance routine in white suits. And by the way, Joey looks nothing like Joey. He looks like he’s made of wax.

So, none of the tactics employed by the wily Take That chaps have been taken on board by NKOTB and their management. No roll-necks or stubble to act as obvious yet effective signifiers of maturity.
Seeing the chaps dancing with nubiles just reminds me of that line from Dazed And Confused, with Matthew McConaughey as the twentysomething guy perving over schoolgirls: “I get older, they stay the same age…”
Still, good luck to them. Someone must need the money pretty badly for them to agree to this.

I just wanted to comment on this story becuase i feel the writer doesn’t understand what business is. When you have over 10 million fans begging you to get back to together and you got the right songs. Of course the record label is going to jump all over the opportunity becuase they know curiosity kills the cat. Their fans get another chance at feeling young again and in this society pretending to be young always feels nice. Also do you think those fan will buy the album or download it. Of course they will buy because its a collectors edition. To be perfectly honest im not a fan of the NKOTB, but I am a huge fan of the artist that wrote there music and brouhgt them back together. His name is Nasri and he is freaking amazing. Go check out his music on myspace and you will see.

As with any band, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. But then this reunion isn’t for those that never liked them or don’t like to admit they ever did…this is for the fans who are still showing their support years down the track.
The track is catchy, well-produced and is getting decent airplay. The vid is a little tongue-in-cheek but it’s who they are. Boyband at it’s best. They did it well back in the day and they’re doing it well again. And hey, we all need a bit of cheese to get us through our days ;)
