Sonic Stereotypes - The injured rocker

Sonic Stereotypes

Why it is it that, when you go to a gig, you always spot something that reminds you that you could break your leg? So many times, I’ve been to gigs, gettin’ down and lost in the moment when, suddenly obscuring your view, is a pair of crutches being hoisted aloft. Wha…?! Hang on a minute! I can definitely see two crutches there. If this person has a broken leg, what’s keeping him upright? It must be that heady and potent brew of too-much lager and the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll!

Of course, the bloke in the picture is taking it to a whole other level. I mean, crowd surfing in a wheelchair is both brilliant and likely to have your allowances stopped. That sort of thing is to be applauded from the rooftops. Only the promise of rock ‘n’ roll thrills can convince someone with an injury to say ‘to hell with it’ and go for a night on the tiles. I mean, have you ever seen crutches in a club? Nope. The draw of live music is too much and maybe, in a thousand years, they’ll look at rock ‘n’ roll as some kind of miracle worker! Supergrass man… they cured cripples! AMEN!
