Sŵn Festival, Cardiff - New autumn festival
Let’s be honest - when you think festival, you think summer. But this weekend, thanks to Huw Stephens (of Radio 1 and Radio Wales fame), Cardiff will be playing host to the brand new Sŵn festival, despite a distinct absence of summer-ness.
Featuring over 70 artists playing across various venues, including Clwb Ifor Bach and The Point, Sŵn (Welsh for “sound”) will bring music, art and cinema together (but mostly music). Using his BBC contacts, Huw’s big weekend will play witness to DJ sets from fellow R1 colleagues Annie Mac, Steve Lamacq and the Vinyl Vendettas (Bethan Elfyn) while acts like The Cribs, I Was A Cub Scout, Victorian English Gentleman’s Club and The Duke Spirit will play alongside a raft of Welsh bands from the local scene.

As anyone who’s been gigging in Welsh Wales will know, Cardiff is sporting a thriving indie scene at the moment so Sŵn should be a big hit with real music lovers.
Thankfully, as it’s a series of indoors events, the festival will laugh in the face of rain, sleet and snow. As Huw explained “Fflam was meant to be our T in the Park, and they cancelled it because of the weather. You don’t cancel a festival because of the weather! This is about the centre of Cardiff and being in the centre of town seeing loads and loads of bands.”
Oh Huw - you had me at bore da…
