Alternative version of Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah”

Gone To The Blogs, Music News, Under The Covers, Video

I’ve said previously that I’ve always felt a little surprised that Jeff Buckley gets all the “dead singer-songwriter” love these days over Elliott Smith. But I won’t bang on about that. It’s Christmas, kind of, and I feel I need to make some kind of penance for all the songs I’ve torn apart this year. Er, I’m not entirely sure how to do that, so can I just put a video up instead please?
Thanks to The Music Slut I came across a version of “Hallelujah” which I’ve never encountered before. Like it or not, the Leonard Cohen song is the one most people associate with Buckley. Even though it’s been totally overexposed on various film / TV soundtracks over the last few years, it’s still a track that can give me the shivers. This video sees Buckers right there in the studio, just him and his geetar.

I think that as time goes on and more people discover the genius of Elliott Smith, it will be he who gets all the “dead singer-songwriter” love.
I am amazed at how many teenagers cite Smith as an influence or fav artist. The legions are growing…
