Video, Where Have I Heard That Song Before?

If you watch this video of Feist on Sesame Street adapting “1-2-3-4″ to become about “counting to 4″, and fail to emit a single “awww”, you need to have your hearstrings tested.
Check it out over the page…

Lost In Translation

If you’re not fortunate enough to be heading off to any festivals this summer, you don’t have to just lie there scratching your bits on the couch. You can read this book about INXS’s Michael Hutchence and Jim Morrison of The Doors speaking to mediums from beyond the grave.
Although, on second thoughts, scratching at your bits on the couch might feel a tad less icky.
Turns out Jim and Mike have revealed all manner of stuff to some opportunistic cynics that people other than opportunistic psychics (their families, say, or the police) would quite like to know.

- This person is understandably annoyed that the previously promised Dandy Warhols now appear not to be appearing at the Lovebox Weekender this Sunday
- Oh, and tickets are still available for the second day, by the way
- The increasingly popular Latitude festival, taking place this weekend, has a number of environmentally-conscious initiatives this year - including “the world’s first fuel-cell-powered festival stage”
- A fair few thespy types will be among the entertainment at Latitude, an’ all
More after the jump…

First things first - the TRUCK festival does not take place in a truck. I really can’t stress that enough. If you’re hoping to see Evan Dando strumming in the back seat while you watch from the passenger seat, you’re going to be disappointed.
If, however, you’d be up for seeing The Lemonheads, Okkervil River, legendary rave mask-wearers Altern8, Get Cape, Camera Obscura and Laura Marling play on a farm, you could be in luck.

The Verve, Amy Winehouse and literally several other people performed at Ireland’s Oxegen festival at the weekend. Here are some pictures from that.

Basically, it looks a bit like an apocalyptic version of Be Here Now. Instead of a Rolls Royce we have what I presume is a very symbolic butterfly, etc.
No complaints here, though, as it fulfills all the criteria one requires from an Oasis album cover in that it is a) bombastic and b) meaningless.
And if you’d like more non-specific symbolism, click through to read the album’s tracklisting. One of them’s called “The Nature Of Reality”, and is almost definitely going put a lot of so-called “philosophers” in their place.

However worried/amused you are by the state of flux the music industry is in right now, it is good to see that the huge number of festivals out there is providing more opportunities for up-and-coming bands to receive exposure.
Sure, most people probably still go along to fests to check out headliners/acts they already know, but there’s always the chance they’ll be exposed to something new and exciting.
The latest festivals to offer unknown bands a spot on their bills are the Big Chill and Underage Festivals, which both take place in August. Acts are encouraged to submit music to alterhit.com, which is running the competition in association with Love Music Hate Racism.

How very British of me to write about an umbrella in the middle of July. But my brolly died last week after being whipped inside out by the good old UK “summertime”, and I suspect mine wasn’t the only one to suffer such a fate. If I’d been at a festival, left to the mercy of opportunistic umbrella-hawkers, I would have been mighty miffed.
Which brings me to the Senz Stealth Umbrella: nowt less than a revolution in wind and rain protection.

Backlash Fodder, I Don't Like Them As Much As I'm Supposed To, Music News, Video

News has been announced today that R&B/soul/funk/rock/alternative/whatever supergroup N*E*R*D are due to hit the motorway in August, with three dates in the UK announced so far. The question on my mind is - will Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo’s live show compensate for a disappointing album track record?
Look, I’m a big fan of N*E*R*D - or, more accurately, The Neptunes. And, if you took the best tracks from their albums, you would have one killer playlist - “Rock Star”, “Truth Or Dare”, “Lapdance”, “She Wants To Move” and “Everyone Nose” show the breadth of styles and moods these phenomenally talented musicians can work with.
But… it’s not really enough, is it?
