Wiley’s “Summertime” video styled by SUPERSUPER

Over to Isabelle, editor of marvellous men’s fashion site Brandish, for a look at the style credentials of the video for Wiley’s slightly novelty new tune “Summertime”:
I’ve officially taken down the mammoth collection of coats from the top shelf of my wardrobe so I don’t know what Wiley is doing releasing “Summertime” now, but to be fair he does a lot better job of ripping off Daft Punk than Kanye ever did.
It’s a ’90s-tastic video which reminds me of Positive K’s epic song ‘I Got a Man’. It features clothes by cult menswear label Jaiden rVa James and styling by SUPERSUPER magazine… Fashiontastic!

electric proms 2008 Burt Bacharach, Adele and Razorlight added to BBC Electric Proms 2008 tickets now on saleThis year’s BBC Electric Proms will take place from 22nd October to 26th October, with Liverpool - European City of Culture this year, ‘member - joining London as host to numerous big-name bastards.
And big-name bastards don’t get much larger than one of the greatest songwriters ever to grace the orb - Burt Bacharach. This is the guy who wrote “Walk On By”, “Close To You”, “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself”, “I Say A Little Prayer”, “What’s New Pussycat”, and many more bastardly good tunes.
Joining Silver Burt will be Adele, who must be doing OK ‘cos I heard “Hometown Glory” on the soundtrack of teen-tear-tease One Tree Hill the other night. Meanwhile, in Liverpool Razorlight will be headlining, hopefully putting to rest disturbing recent rumours that their new album’s actually pretty good.

Oasis promote Dig Out Your Soul by getting anyone but themselves to play it

Music News

Noel_Gallagher.jpgPop star laziness is at something of an all time high these days, what with musicians asking you to make their videos, name their albums and write their songs; hell, one guy even wants you to rustle him up some clothes.
Oasis have taken this trend of fecklessness to the next logical level with the promotion of new album Dig Out Your Soul. Now, I know Noel [right, click to enlarge] isn’t feeling too great right now after his assult by a Canadian tooligan recently, but I think these marketing tactics must have been planned for some time now, so that’s no excuse.
Firstly, NME will be giving away the sheet music and lyrics for three new songs so you can bloody well get on with playing them yourself…

Pop Heaven: The Saturdays - “Up”

The Saturdays Pop Heaven: The Saturdays Up
You didn’t think we needed a new Girls Aloud, did you? Ah, but then did you ever think we needed Girls Aloud in the first place? What I’m trying to say is there is room for more than one five-piece girl group in the poposphere, and right now The Saturdays are being tipped as Girls Aloud’s successors / imitators / whatevers. With pretty good reason.
“Up”, if you weren’t watching the video, would sound very very very much like Girls Aloud, but it’s a good tune and maybe after a hit or two they’ll find their own “vibe”, yes? Check it out after the jump.

Glastonbury organisers kindly allow you to buy as many £175 tickets (plus booking fee) as you like

Festival News

It seems that stating that they’re not going to bother with that nasty rap music again isn’t quite enough for Glastonbury organisers. Taking no chances, they’ve decreed that punters will, for 2009’s event, be able to purchase as many tickets they like.
Registration for next year’s Glasto is open currently and tickets are available from October 5th, with a second batch due to be put on sale on April 5th 2009.
Each bulk purchase will have to be made using the same debit card, however, and only alongside a valid registration number.

From Garbage to toilet: Shirley Manson plays killer urinal Terminator

shirly manson urinal From Garbage to toilet: Shirley Manson plays killer urinal TerminatorWhen you’re a slave to keywords, squeezing “Shirley Manson”, “Terminator”, “Garbage” and “urinal” into a post header is a gift you just can’t pass up. Even if you basically tell the whole story in the headline and are left with very little else to write.
For (marginally) more information you can read the news story at NME.com about Shirls appearing in Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles; or you can just watch the video of Shirley morphing from urinal to lady, and then poking someone all the way to death, after the jump.

Esser to appear during Levi’s OnesToWatch 5 Night Revue

Music News

Last year’s Levi’s OnesToWatch event - the 4 Night Revue - will this year be bettered by, as you may have guessed from the headline up there, a 5 Night Revue which runs from September 22nd to September 26th at The Macbeth in London.
2007 saw The Wombats, Foals and Ida Maria perform on the bill, so you can probably expect at least a couple of this year’s acts to be all blowy uppy a year from now. Which means you need to see them NOW to be able to retain any sort of bragging rights over the mainstream PLEBS who will hop on the bandwagon the moment any of the bands appear in The Guardian Guide.
Check out the full line-up over the page.
