Alex Fyvie is a sales executive at Oxford dance & rnb station FM107.9, where MCT writer Sophie Bruce also works. So cut him some slack, he has enough to deal with. He’s shared his experience of a very muddy fifth trip to Global Gathering with us.
1. Kindly tell us your name, age and where you’re from. Now.
Alex Fyvie, 24, from Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
2. Which festival have you recently attended?
Global Gathering.
3. Have you attended this festival before? If yes, how does this year compare?
Yes – 5 times! This year was good in respect of the music and DJs, but too muddy and too wet - my favourite jeans got destroyed.

4. Which act gave the best performance, and why?
Daft Punk - because it is the only performance I can remember fully. Oh and DJ Fu was amazing – a nice touch!
5. If you could have promoted one act on the bill to headline status, who would you choose? Why?
Any DJ from the Sputnik Global tent – you’d know why if you were there. Wow.
6. Did your opinion of any acts change radically as a result of their performance?
Yes – Daft Punk. I had no idea they’d be so good live!
7. Nicest surprise / biggest disappointment (music-related or otherwise)?
The nicest surprise was the Red Arrows’ fly-past on my entrance. The worst was the neck-deep mud I got stuck in time and time again.
8. What was the best heckle you heard?
I can’t say I noticed any memorable ones – I was too busy absorbing the music.
9. Any high-quality onstage banter you feel deserves highlighting?
The Drum & Bass MCs were great – lots of good lyrics and slick mentions of GG07.
10. What was the funniest moment (music-related or otherwise)?
Self-induced – at one point I turned around to continue chatting to my girlfriend, only to realise I had been walking along talking to myself for the last god knows how long!
11. Weirdest moment (if different)?
As above. Oh the shame.
12. Any moments of sheer terror you’d like to share?
Not seeing a single sign directing us to the festival until we were well out of Stratford town centre. We thought we were lost until we saw our saviour in the form of a yellow AA sign glowing like a beacon on the road side.
13. Anything you wish you’d brought with you?
Wellies. Waterproofs. Umbrella. Spare socks. Plastic bags (to put muddy clothes in afterwards). Spare shoes. Spare shirt. Spare trousers. The list goes on…
14. Anything you wish you’d left behind?
My favourite jeans (did I mention those already?!) and my credit card – now buried in a field somewhere under five feet of mud.
15. Please mark the following elements out of 10, with any comments:
General facilities: 7/10 (except for the hazardous broken step up to the male urinals – very dangerous!)
Crowd / audience: 9/10
Food and drink value for money: 4/10
16. Finally – anything else you’d like to mention?
Yes – hurry up Global Gathering 2008!
Thanks for taking part in our humble questionnaire. Your place in heaven is assured (assuming you haven’t previously murdered anyone).
