Weekend festival round-up: Isle of Wight, Download, Rock Ness
The festival season got well and truly under way at the weekend, with Download, Isle Of Wight and Rock Ness all taking place.
Download organisers are taking advantage of a successful event by making tickets for next year’s festival available this Friday. This year the rock extravaganza was closed by Iron Maiden, and all manner of related news and video goodness can be found on the official site.
Isle Of Wight boasted a performance by Muse, and judging by their show I’d say they’ll fill the new Wembley Stadium with ease next weekend. You can see their performance of “Starlight” after the jump. Meanwhile one of the big stories was Amy Winehouse duetting with Mick Jagger (and escaping un-impregnated, hopefully).
Sadly the performances at Rock Ness - from acts such as The Chemical Brothers, The Feeling and Manic Street Preachers - have been overshadowed by the news that a 39-year old man was found dead in the early hours of Sunday morning. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
So to Muse, who seem to have become one of the few bands in the modern day to have graduated to stadium superstar level without alienating swathes of their early followers and becoming mainstream bores. This is why:
