What else is happening besides Glastonbury this weekend?
Believe it or not there’s a whole wide world out there beyond Somerset, and in that wide world other festival-type event are occurring this weekend. But what, precisely?
- Wakestock is Europe’s largest Wakeboard and Music Festival, with the Blenheim Palace (right) leg taking place from today until Sunday. Remind yourself of who’s playing here
- Hyde Park is going to see a lot of folk pass through its gates this weekend, with that 46664 Nelson Mandela gig today, and Hard Rock Calling on Saturday and Sunday. Performing at the latter will be Eric Clapton, The Police, Sheryl Crow and the notoriously hard rock KT Tunstall
- Staying with the rock, the British Rock And Metal Festival will be fighting for its share of moshers, with a slightly more budget-friendly entry price of a tenner to see Blaze Bayley, Voodoo Six and (metal spelling alert) Rekiuem in Dudley
- Award for most Morrissey-esque festival name of the weekend, and possibly the summer, goes to Boring By The Sea, which takes place in Weymouth on Sunday. Good Shoes and French filthies The Teenagers top the bill
- At the other end of the scale, Milton Keynes Bowl will host the gargantuan likes of Linkin Park, Jay-Z and N*E*R*D for (cyberpunk spelling alert) Projeckt Revolution
- The Rose Tree Jam has pretty good bills for £30 a day - Mark Ronson, Calvin Harris and Cut Copy on the Saturday; and KT Tunstall, Athlete and Ben’s Brother the day after. It takes place at Bowood House near Chippenham
- Further afield, the Graspop Metal Meeting in northern Belgium rivals Download for riffage - this year they have Iron Maiden, Kiss, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Bullet For My Valentine, Ministry and WHITE-BLOODY-SNAKE
- Meanwhile this year’s Eden Sessions begin tonight with The Verve’s sold-out show, while Sunday sees sets from Vampire Weekend and The Raconteurs
