Jamie George: fan of wonderful days and Caramacs
Music News, Up-And-Coming Acts
Jamie George was apparently in a group called 3rd Edge, but I must have been in the queue at the Post Office or something while they were having their two Top 20 hits.
Now Jamie George is aiming for success as a solo artist, which is always a tricky proposition for a member of a boy band, let alone a boy band I’d wager many people haven’t heard of.
HOWEVER, such relative anonymity can also be positive for someone like Jamie. I imagine he has built up quite a good list of “contacts” from his time in the industry, while the likes of me are not going to listen to his new stuff and be like “oh, it’s not as good as song X”, or “hahahahaaaaaaaa what a muppet, he was in that group who did song Y”.
Jamie George is now producing rather pleasant, very catchy pop music for himself. Some of it makes me think of Finley Quaye’s more upbeat moments, and while I’m loathe to reproduce publicity material there is some accuracy in the comparisons to Jamie T. Jamie T after elocution lessons, perhaps.
“Wonderful Day”, the single to be released on 9th February, should probably be pencilled in right now for a summer rerelease. Assuming we actually receive a summer this year, it’s a song that would help soundtrack it perfectly. It’s all about sacking off responsibility and going for a nice drive with your friend/shorty “mono e mono” (?).
Parents should be warned that Jamie advocates going to a roundabout to “scream and shout” and also falling on the grass to “roll around”. LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS.
While we await the appropriate season to enjoy “Wonderful Day” in its pure form, I’d point you to the Phonetix remix. Phonetix is a garage/bassline type who, by the sounds of his MySpace, dabbles in funky yet also accessible BANGINGNESS. His remix of “Wonderful Day” is appropriately magnificent, and you can download it for free at the end of this post.
Returning to Mr George, here’s something to note from his MySpace:

A big picture of a Caramac bar. This is present because Jamie has “Caramac skin (yet I don’t melt in the sun)”. I applaud any mentions to Caramac anywhere in the world ever, because I love that shit.
So that’s Jamie George. His album Scared Of A Day Job is due out in March, and until then you can find him on MySpace here. Don’t forget to download the Phonetix remix of “Wonderful Day” below if you fancy a blast of Friday garage bangingness.
