Download Festival: In-Tents Questioning
In-Tents Questioning, Music News
This, readers, is a special occasion. My Chemical Toilet’s first In-Tents Questioning. Savour this moment. Savour it good. Our first interviewee is Niki Jones, 29, from London. Niki went to Download and sampled the rock. He survived, and bravely answered our questions.
1. Kindly tell us your name, age and where you’re from. Now.
Niki Jones. 29. London.
2. Which festival have you recently attended?
Download.
3. Have you attended this festival before? If yes, how does this year compare?
Yes, it was about the same as previous years.
4. Which act gave the best performance, and why?
Motley Crue. Tight, energetic, played virtually a greatest hits set, blatantly refuse to act their age.
5. If you could have promoted one act on the bill to headline status, who would you choose? Why?
All of my favourites were at the top of the bill this year, I must be getting old. Actually I would have put Velvet Revolver over My Chemical Romance as Slash deserves to be above the emo boys. But then I would have missed Korn, so it’s swings and roundabouts, eh?
6. Did your opinion of any acts change radically as a result of their performance?
I like Bowling For Soup a little more due to their good stage presence.
7. Nicest surprise / biggest disappointment (music-related or otherwise)?
Satellite Party playing Been Caught Stealing / The lack of loo roll in the VIP area toilets.
8. What was the best heckle you heard?
There was something aimed at Bowling For Soup but sadly I can’t remember it.
9. Any high-quality onstage banter you feel deserves highlighting?
Bowling For Soup birthed a little blow-up sheep out of a huge blow-up sheep. Also Tommy Lee’s “When I say Motley you say Crue” shtick was amusing.
10. What was the funniest moment (music-related or otherwise)?
My friend Orlando’s sellotape attack in the VIP area.
11. Weirdest moment (if different)?
The guy dressed as a smurf.
12. Any moments of sheer terror you’d like to share?
Too drunk for fear.
13. Anything you wish you’d brought with you?
A Winnebago.
14. Anything you wish you’d left behind?
The bruise on my leg.
15. Please mark the following elements out of 10, with any comments:
General facilities:
7/10 – Toilets stayed blocked for somewhat longer than last year.
Crowd / audience:
8/10 – Great atmosphere as always.
Food and drink value for money:
5/10 – Beer was West End prices but £5 for a burger takes the piss.
16. Finally – anything else you’d like to mention?
See you next year Donnington!
Thanks for taking part in our humble questionnaire. Your place in heaven is assured (assuming you haven’t previously murdered anyone).
