In The City took place earlier this month in Manchester, didn't it? Guess I was too busy writing about cocktails. Allow me to remedy that by alerting your eyesandminds to the curtain-closer of this year's event, which is taking place this coming Monday, 27th October.

For this event - Best Of In The City 2008 - the natural order of the world will be restored, because it's gwanning south of Watford. Camden Barfly in London, to be precise (as if you couldn't have guessed).

The show cherry-picks the best new acts from In The City's Manchester shows and puts them in front of folded-armed brogue-wearers who will likely spend most of the night at the bar chatting about industry lay-offs. But it also allows normals like you to check out the bands likely to receive considerable exposure over the coming year or so.

This year's Best of In The City will feature Detroit Social Club, Baddies, The Jessie Rose Trip and To The Bones. Baddies caught my ear the most when I checked out the videos available at In The City TV on Muzu - they do the whole guitar-under-armpits, shirts-buttoned-to-neck jerky-jerk thing, but with some irresistably catchy ooh-ah and ooh-ooh bits that might just melt your cynicism.
