Five copies of Angus And Julia Stone's double EP up for grabs

While we're on the subject of our friends at Nollie, if you're a fan of delicate-but-not-mopey, chilled-out acoustic goodness, you might want to check out their latest comp.

They're giving away 5 copies of the double EP from Angus and Julia Stone, Heart Full of Wine / Chocolate and Cigarettes. Er, does a double EP equal one album? Not sure of the current exchange rate regarding formats.

Anyway, go here to enter the competition - and if you're not sure whether it's worth it, the delightful "Just A Boy", which you can hear/see over the page, should convince you.

Does Kate Nash Deserve XFM's New Music Award? Apply To Get On The Voting Panel

XFM have announced the shortlist for their New Music Award, designed to recognise the best UK debut album of 2007. Listeners have been voting for their choices recently, and the shortlist is:

Air Traffic 'Fractured Life'
The Enemy 'We'll Live and Die In These Towns'
Frank Turner 'Sleep Is For The Week'
Kate Nash 'Made Of Bricks'
Klaxons 'Myths Of The Near Future'
The Maccabees 'Colour It In'
The Pigeon Detectives 'Wait For Me'
The Twang 'Love It When I Feel Like This'
The View 'Hats Off To The Buskers'
The Wombats 'Proudly Present.. A Guide To Love, Loss and Desperation'

Weird to see Klaxons on a list of "new" albums - feels like they've been around forever already, doesn't it? Anyway, if you shuddered at the mention of Kate Nash's name, or vomited at the thought of The Pigeon Detectives receiving an award, there may be something you can do.

Come work with Shiny

We’re offering a chance to train and work with Shiny Media, the UK’s top video blogging team. This opportunity will allow unique insight into how we plan, script and shoot up to 80 videos every month. The Shiny Media videos are watched by an audience of around 50,000 every week, and this internship offers you the chance to gain skills that will help you develop your career in the video media industry.

We have two 6-month internships available starting from January 2008. One for a budding video presenter and one for a video production person. The internship provides:

  • The chance to be trained by top talent in video blogging and contribute to creating videos that are watched by an audience of 1,000s daily
  • An all expenses paid trip to Barcelona to cover the 3GSM World Congress
  • A blog to share your experiences while participating in the programme
  • The brand new LG Viewty mobile phone to help you on your path to shooting video on the go

You can also tell us which videos *you* think are best by leaving comments and ranking them on YouTube.

Take photos, send photos, win LG Viewty. Easiest. Competition. Ever.

Just a reminder about the fab new moblog we've set up in conjunction with LG, and the competition we're running, through which two lucky UK-ites can win an LG Viewty mobile phone each. Pretty special, obviously!

We’re looking for two UK photo bloggers to help us by taking portrait snaps of people / places which they think best sum up the true essence and style of the UK. We’ve teamed up with blog networks from Germany, Spain, France and The Netherlands to create the ultimate pan-European blog City Clickers.

At the moment, our Euro-friends are totally kicking our butts in this comp, so show off your patriotic side by getting out there and snapping what you see. Basically, if you can post 10 photos a month then we want to hear from you! What's that you say, it's raining and miserable outside? What could possibly be more British that that? Snap it! Send it!

Winners will receive a brand new LG Viewty phone and will have their bill paid for 2 months. To find out how to enter and to see what other people have photographed, click here.

The Kooks, Jarvis, Hot Chip - October sees the return of Oxjam. Guilt-free gigging ahoy!

Untitled-2.jpgFeel bad frittering away your hard earned cash to see random bands? Well, this is for charity! After the success of last year's events, Oxfam are returning this October to launch Oxjam, their fundraising festival featuring hundreds of local and big-name acts at events up and down the country.

To launch Oxjam a number of secret gigs will be held at London Oxfam shops in early October including performances from The Kooks, Hot Chip, Fatboy Slim, Jamelia and a gentleman who looks like he's been in a charity shop or two, Jarvis Cocker. Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) told Oxfam he's donated old records to charity shops before but performing in one “will be a first”. You can win tickets for these intimate sets through the Oxfam website.

Competition launched for greener festivals

festivalgoersgoingfestival.jpgGreen advice website www.agreenerfestival.com is launching a competition for festival fans to suggest new ideas to promote environmental friendliness at festivals and get events greener. The new comp', Great Green Ideas, was launched at this weekend's Bestival by the campaigning and information website AGreenerFestival.

In addition, Glastonbury Festival and Peats Ridge Festival in Australia will all be asking their fans for their best ideas. AGreenerFestival co-founder Ben Challis explained: "Some of the very best ideas that improve festivals come from fans and its time we ask people who go to events how they want to get greener. This year we have seen a huge increase in the number of tents abandoned at festivals and these, along with personal carbon footprints, are just two of the things we want fans to think about. Sometimes really simple ideas are the best so any ideas on reducing waste, recycling and preventing pollution would be really welcome as well."

PG tips ‘Beau-Tea’ competition - win a summer picnic pack

pgtipscomp.gif
We all like to party and have a good time at festivals, but sometimes you just feel like a nice cuppa.

PG tips has launched a national campaign, “Beau-Tea” spots, to find the best places to enjoy an al fresco cuppa. Picnics at the seaside or at an idyllic country spot are a great way to spend time with family and friends but, with the unpredictable British climate, packing a flask of tea is a must!

With more of us choosing to holiday in the UK, PG tips is championing the UK’s ‘Beau-Tea’ spots by asking the public to nominate their ideal place to relax and sit back with a cuppa. If you would like to nominate your favourite Beau-Tea spot, or find more great places to have a cuppa, visit www.pgtips.co.uk.

Apple to take bite out of UK festival season with free summer gigs

itunes.jpg Firstly, apologies for the gratuitous use of the words "Apple" and "bite". Secondly, hoorah! for Apple, which will be mostly spending this summer letting punters watch the likes of Amy Winehouse, The View, Groove Amada and the quite-special-actually Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. For free!

The full line-up, and it's quite exciting, is here. It's all tied up with iTunes, and the only way to get tickets will be to enter competitions for them with those shiny-computered iPod lovers.

For those who can't get tickets (that'll be most of the people who enter, then), the gigs will be available to download from iTunes, although there's no word yet as to whether you'll need to pay for them. We suspect so. Arty types who are already members of the ICA stand a slightly better chance of bagging some tickets thanks to some being reserved. The first gig will kick off on the evening of July 1st with nice-but-weird Mika.
