Dispatches From Beardsville: Leonard Cohen to hit the road with huge tour of the world

Folk legend Leonard Cohen has been off the road for a fair while now, so to compensate his fans he's going on a monster tour of just about every country in the entire world to play hits old and new. The mammoth tour kicks off on the 6th of May and ends in Vienna in August. Along the way he'll stop at Glastonbury, The Big Chill and some places I've never even heard of in the Eastern Bloc. Exciting stuff! Read over for a very long list of tour dates!

Benicassim lands Siouxsie Sioux and loads more to promise ace festival fun

siouxsie_200x200.jpgWe're only just in February of 2008 and already Benicassim is looking like one of the best festival line-ups of the year. News has reached us that Siouxsie Sioux has been added to the bill, alongside American Music Club and The New Pornographers.

This lot join the already confirmed My Bloody Valentine and Babyshambles. Who else? How about Jose Gonzalez, Metronomy and The National? The festival runs from July 17th-20th.

You can buy your tickets here, or if you want to find out a bit more about Benicassim then you should click here to visit the official site.

The festival fan's latest internet treat - Babelgum

babelgum.jpg

Technosavvy festival fans, sit up and listen. First the internet gifted you iTunes. Then YouTube. Now into the arena steps Babelgum – a self-styled ‘new generation global internet TV network’.

UK, US and European-wide network Babel has been running the site since 2005, giving viewers the chance to create their own personalised TV channels. But now for the first time you can add festival feeds to your pick of favourite videos, sport and programmes. Obviously not all festivals are available to view – only those that sign agreements with the site. However the footage they do have is varied and some is completely exclusive, such as coverage you can now access online from Spain’s massive Bencassim festival.

In-Tents Questioning: Benicassim - Paul Roffey

paulroffey2.gifLast month Paul Roffey reported from the Knowsley Hall festival. This month he's answering questions about his jaunt to Benicassim in the slightly more glamorous surroundings of Foreignland (Spain, to be precise). Do you think it rained there, readers? Whaddya reckon??

1. Kindly tell us your name, age and where you’re from. Now.

Paul Roffey, 28, West Didsbury, Manchester.

2. Which festival have you recently attended?

Festival Internacional de Benicassim (FIB) 2007.

3. Have you attended this festival before? If yes, how does this year compare?

No.

4. Which act gave the best performance, and why?

Got to be the Arctic Monkeys. They've improved so much live - real tight, real good!

5. If you could have promoted one act on the bill to headline status, who would you choose? Why?

Probably Who Made Who. They stood in for Klaxons on their main stage spot and were excellent.

Festivals round up - Tuesday update

slyfamilystone1.jpg

As previously reported, a lot of the weekend’s festivals were a muddy mess. But some brave reviewers have now made it back from the edge, so here’s a more detailed round up.

- At the Lovebox Weekender Sly and the Family Stone’s late arrival did nothing to detract from their performance or dampen the audience’s enthusiasm for the band’s first reunion in two decades, or so says the Telegraph.

Festivals round up – the weather rains on everyone’s parade

fesitval%20rain.jpg

You may have noticed a teeny tiny bit of rain across the UK this weekend. And BOY did it affect the festivals!

- The Glade Festival was one of the first to be badly hit by this weekend’s apocalyptical storms. With the Overkill Stage under nearly 2 feet of water and tents being washed away, organisers were forced to stop letting ticket holders in and many frustrated fans headed home without setting foot on site.

Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse - The festivals where you can catch Nationwide Mercury Prize nominees

batforlashes.gifYou may have noticed that the shortlist for this year's Nationwide Mercury Awards was announced the other day. So it's only a couple of months until the papers go mental over the odds of the potential winners, in marked contrast to how much the record-buying public actually cares.

If, however, you would like to see which festivals all these marvellous folk are playing, you may do so below because I've typed that very information there.

Bat For Lashes
- ‘Fur And Gold’

You can catch Bat (pictured), or "Natasha" as she's know to her friends, at Field Day, Connect Festival, Electric Picnic and Bestival. She's also playing Rock En Seine if you happen to be in France towards the end of August.

The Young Knives - 'Voices of Animal and Men'

Ashby de la Zouch's favourite sons have already played Glastonbury and will also be playing the Redhill Park Music Festival, the Electric Gardens Festival, Leeds / Reading and the Underage festival at London's Victoria Park.

Jamie T - ‘Panic Prevention’

Jamie T will be inspiring severe brappage at Lowlands, Leeds / Reading and also this weekend's Benicassim fest in Spain.
