Naughty Rappers: Vanilla Ice arrested for domestic abuse

vanilla_ice_.jpgIt hardly seems fair on the world of hip hop to call Vanilla Ice a rapper. However, as there's no other genre to stick him in (printable genres at least), rap will have to do. And with that, seeing as he's been a naughty boy, I can tell you all about his antics that have landed him in jail in our Naughty Rappers section.

Vanilla Ice had been arrested in connection with beating his wife. It's all alleged at the moment. For legal reasons, I've underlined it. His wife, Laura Van Winkle, called police claiming that Vanilla, or the Robert Matthew Van Winkle as his doctor knows him, was kicking and hitting her at their Palm Beach County home. Ice was taken in after the domestic battery allegations were made.

Naughty Rappers: M.O.P's porn movie to investigate the consequences of asses getting busted

Morning! Here's a nice one to read as you munch your cornflakes.

Not for M.O.P the whole semi-autobiographical, rags-to-riches movie route. Nah, when it comes to producing movies, the "Ante Up" hip-hoppers are heading straight to the porno report Idolator.

After doing a spot of acting in a film produced by Damon Dash, the pair are now working towards the release of a movie called Creepers.

"It's about when you catch a chick cheating and you can't believe that you're seeing your girl's ass get busted," says M.O.P fellow Billy Danze.

Naughty Rappers: Snoop Dogg gets his clothesline on at Wrestlemania XXIV

snoop.gifIn case you were in any doubt as to Snoop's realness vis-a-vis hip-hop, check him out proving his stuff by sticking his arm into someone's face in a wrestling ring. This occured at the recent Wrestlemania XXIV event, at which Snoop appeared as a guest Master Of Ceremonies. Do they still do SummerSlam? I'd like to see Kanye West perform a piledriver on someone please.

See Snoop's clothesline after the jump, staged violence fans!

Naughty Rappers: La Coka Nostra's "That's Coke" isn't about teddy bears and ice cream

Cocaine and guns are good, aren't they? I consider my weekends a total bust if I haven't had many hours of fun with at least one of them, but obviously if I can squeeze both into my nightly trips to Wetherspoons that's all the better. If you're anything like me, you'd probably like to hang out with rap chaps La Coka Nostra, whose jaunty new song "That's Coke" espouses the joy of both the above accessories.

They all look like the slightly disposable ones in mob movies, but don't let that put you off as, despite lyrics you wouldn't let your mother within a 100 miles of, it's bona fide banger. You might not want to get a lift with them however, as they appear, on this track, to confess to hiding nose candy in freezer bags within their Ferrari. Boys boys boys, a little bit of discretion? If they get pulled over on the way to Wetherspoons they have only themselves to blame.

Check out "That's Coke" over the page. It contains lots of naughty rapper-style language, so don't say I didn't warn you or I will probably shoot you in the head.

DMX has never heard of Barack Obama but thinks his name is funny

dmx.gifI love interviews with rappers who are a little, shall we say, eccentric. You know, the types who don't go in for that PR-influenced self-censorship. One such gentleman is DMX (not his real name).

I mentioned recently that X - as he's known by people who can't be bothered with the three letter version - is planning an intriguing-sounding project involving gospel music. XXL last week put up an interview with him which suggests media training doesn't feature that heavily in X's life. If it did, he probably wouldn't have claimed never to have heard of Barack Obama, before proceeding to take the piss out of his name. Even in the occasionally insular world of hip-hop, having zero knowledge of Brack Obama is pretty breathtaking.

Check out some of the highlights from the interview over the page. It is rather amusing and features a rant against the police taking all his guns "for nothing".

Naughty Rappers (turned good?): Snoop falls out with Oprah but makes it up to the laydeez

Snoop Dogg likes the ladies. Not all of them mind you, as he's gone right off that Oprah Winfrey lass after she accused him of being a misogynist. Hang on. That's fair, ain't it? Winfrey slated Snoop as a prime offender in portraying women negatively through hip-hop... Let's see:

"Dre got some bitches from the city of Compton to serve me... 'cause when I bust my nut, I'm raisin up off the cot. Don't get upset girl, that's just how it goes... I don't love you hoes."

Yeah. Seems fair enough. However, Snoop is apparently now a changed man. Seriosizzle. Or some shizzle.

Naughty Rappers: why does Fat Joe wants to break 50 Cent's teeth?

That's not very nice, is it? How would 50 masticate all the stuff from the Candy Shop with no gnashers?

But believe you me, this is just the latest in a long, pointless, bitter beef between the two rap chaps. It got me thinking - can they even remember why they hate each other so? Did it all begin with something trivial, like maybe 50 borrowed Joe's pen and forgot to give it back but Joe was too proud to ask for it back and maybe then he saw 50 using it at a fan signing or something and then got all bitter about it and was like, no way?

Conjecture, all of it. I needed facts - if not solid ones, then at least some that have been reported by semi-reliable sources. After a good 3 seconds of semi-coherent online searching on my part, I am pleased to be able to present you with The Story Of How 50 Cent And Fat Joe Fell Out. Read the whole sorry saga over the page.

Eminem to publish autobiography. Didn't he kind of do that with 8 Mile already?

eminem.gifOK, that's a bit flippant. But 8 Mile was supposed to be heavily autobiographical, wasn't it? But I don't suppose a film allows long paragraphs about how rubbish his Mum was. A heavily-publicised book will though!

But again - hasn't he covered a lot of this stuff in his music? I suppose what I'm trying to say is: Marshall, save the stuff about your childhood, if you don't mind. Instead give us the chance of some vicarious pop star thrills and tell us once and for all what pop starlets / actresses you have / haven't had cuddles with. Oh, and don't forget stories about drugs and guns and stuff. We want all that "eye of the hurricane" stuff, if you can remember any of it. Cheers.

UPDATE: Looks like this news came from a big-mouthed someone at Eminem's UK publisher who has now been properly told off. And maybe pistol-whipped.

Raekwon and Ghostface up the beef with fellow Wu-Tang Clanster RZA

wuwuwu.jpg

Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the Wu Tang Clan are not happy rappers. Hell no. They well don't dig fellow Wu-Tanger RZA and his production on their latest cut, 8 Diagrams. I don't know if you've seen the bilious video with Rae-K going off on one (click here) but he's gettin' pissed off with the state of Wu play.

And he's not finished - speaking to the Times, he said: “The album didn't really have that energy that everybody knows the Clan for. Plus RZA on the production, he wasn't coming with the heat. It's like giving somebody a sandwich and him saying: ‘Yo, I love the way you make those sandwiches.' Then you give the nigga a sandwich again, nigga spits the shit out and says: ‘What kind of cheese is this? This bread is all hard and crunchy.'"

Naughty Rappers: Lil Wayne allegedly had shitloads of drugs on his tour bus

lilwayne.gifThings you are not really supposed to keep in your tour bus that Lil Wayne allegedly did:

- 105 grammes of Marijuana

- 29 grammes of cocaine

- 41 grammes of ecstasy

- drug paraphanaliums

Also, carrying all of the above along with what may / may not be a licensed firearm is somewhat frowned upon. Wayne - or Lil, as I like to call him - isn't as big on these shores as he is in the States, where he's almost as popular as dodgy subprime mortgages. Maybe this bust will give him the international exposure his career could use. So much easier than promoting an album and all that malarkey.

Vaguely Naughty Rappers: Cam'ron samples Musical Youth's "Pass The Duchie" for, er, "Pass The Duchie"

Honestly, he hasn't even changed the title. He has changed the lyrics though, inasmuch as I think someone goes on about "getting cake" at one point. There's a possibility I imagined that though. Have a listen yourself below. Go on, treat yourself.

Naughty Rappers: 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige linked to trafficking of steroids

50%20Cent%20G-Unit.jpgOh dear. Wherever fame and rap go, trouble is usually sniffing around too. This time, trouble is spelled with a capital S.T.E.R.O.I.D. A year-long investigation into trafficking of illegal steroids in New York has thrown up the ‘names’ of Timbaland, 50 Cent and Mary J Blige in connection with the really not legal in any way shape or form trade. Yipes!

According to DrownedInSound, the claims emerged via "ever-murky ‘confidential sources’", though the entertainers in question - also including Wyclef Jean - seem to be taking the matters seriously, only Blige’s representatives have come out to refute and say "Oooooh, wait a minute!" The illegal substances seem to be getting into the US through the Albany docks on the West bank of the Hudson river before being distributed through a local network of doctors’ practices, pharmacies and anti-aging clinics... and rappers... maybe.

Under The Covers Special: A look at how Dr Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit" became an acceptable t-shirt slogan

tshirt.JPGOne of my, shall we say, "quirkier" presents this past Christmas was a t-shirt with the legend "Bitches Ain't Shit" emblazoned across it (see right). Aside from the fact that I work in an office full of women (making it off limits for daywear) and feel a bit old for hip-hop sloganeering, even of the ironic variety, it was a most thoughtful gift.

As I panicked over the thought of getting the sack should I wear the garment to the office, it struck me that this might be an ideal time to take a look at the post-modern nonsense that led to me receiving said item for Jesus' birthday.

"Bitches Ain't Shit" was a Dr Dre track featuring, among other chaps, Snoop Doggy Dogg (as was). Apparently it's a diss at the now-deceased Eazy-E, although to be honest this reading passed me by mainly because virtually every line of the track seems preoccupied with either a) bitches, b) hoes, c) bitches and hoes.

Forwarding Fodder: Fur Q's "Uzi Lover" on The Day Today

daytoday.gif1994's The Day Today was, and shall forever be, one of the greatest comedy series ever ever ever. Ever. It took the piss out of pretty much every aspect of TV news, and music didn't escape.

The Fur Q sketch was only a minute and a half long, but anybody who sees it instantly feels the need to share it with their mates - so it's fortunate that there are kindly souls around to nick it and put it on ver Tube.

From the Phil Collins sample (sounded ridiculous at the time - then this happened), to the none-more-macho lyrics ("Uzi like a metal dick in my hand, magazine like a big testicle gland"), to the music critic defending onstage murders as "ironic", the segment nailed gangsta rap perfectly. This chap really was a naughty rapper.

This will brighten your day. Check it out after the click.

DMX aims to "make muthaf*ckas mad" by releasing gospel-tinged double album

dmx.gifYes, so DMX - not his real name - is going to release a double album, half of which will apparently be a gospel set.

"The same title is gonna be on both albums, but on one album one part [of the title] is gonna be [highlighted]. On the other album, the other name is gonna be [highlighted]," he explains.

Gotcha. Hard to know who the gospel songs will appeal to, really. I'd have thought gospel music fans might be slightly resistant to DMX, whose rap sheet reads a bit like an encyclopaedia of crime; while his core hip-hop fanbase probably won't be too bothered about hearing him crooning to The Almighty. Maybe this quandary is why he has his fingers crossed.

Naughty Rappers: Mobb Deep's Prodigy teaches his seven year-old how to kill people fire a gun

When I was seven I think I was learning how to ride a bike, and also crying over what Star Wars figures my friends had that I didn't.

Mobb Deep's Prodigy is ensuring his little boy doesn't grow up such a wuss by, um, taking him to the shooting range and letting him have a little gun fun. Aw. It's so cute the way the rifle's kickback almost knocks his little face off.

I'm not going to say anything about whether this style of parenting is right or wrong because I don't want to get shot, least of all by a seven year-old.

Naughty Rappers: Akon faces charges related to child-chucking - see the video before the lawyers take it down

Well, Wikipedia lists him as an "occasional rapper", so yes, he counts for our "Naughty Rappers" section.

Following his pesky little encounter with an underage girl in Trinidad earlier this year, Akon currently has a song out named "Sorry, Blame It On Me" in which he apologises for this, that and the other. He may need to release a remix / follow-up shortly, given his new fan-related sticky situation.

It's alleged that he... he... he threw a kid from the stage into the crowd?! After the kid allegedly threw something at him? And that the kid landed on a woman who is now pressing charges?! Maybe he should consider joining the WWE, they love that kind of stuff.

Naturally, the whole thing was caught on camera, and you can see it over the page.

Naughty Rappers - Riskay has novel way to catch out two-timers

A leetle bit NSFW this one, particularly if your colleagues are able to hear the music you listen to. Riskay is a female rapper from "the South" (that means Florida, not Portsmouth) who has made a lovely little ditty detailing how she plans to catch out her man, who keeps coming home at 5am.

Now, she could go through his mobile. She could follow him at a discreet distance. Hey, she could even straight out ask him (you never know, could work). But this girl has something altogether more... um... fragrant in mind.

Let's just cut to the chase. The song's called "Smell Yo Dick", and you can hear it over the page (as long as your Mum's not in the room).

50 Cent is quite clearly a massive jessie

50 Cent once mewed "Hate a liar more than I hate a thief" in his "I'm A Hustler" track. Does that mean he's all filled with self loathing now?

Why? Well, do you remember when he said he'd quit the music industry if his Curtis LP sold fewer copies than Kayne West's Graduation album when they both went on sale on the same day? Well, as we all know, West won and instead of quitting, 50 Cent announced new tour dates and refused to leave the music industry behind him. Clearly, he's a liar and a big coward to boot!

Naughty rappers, female edition: Da Brat charged with pirate-themed assault

dabrat.gifDa Brat (pictured as a teenage boy, right) doesn't occupy a huge section in my record collection, I'll be honest. Was she on that Mariah Carey song that was basically just a rip-off of Cameo's "Candy"? You know, the one where Mariah (she's on fire) wore a doo-rag as a bra?

Well anyway, she's gone and got herself charged with assault after allegedly attacking a waitress with a bottle of rum. I like the pirate-y overtones of this alleged assault. Revolvers and stun-guns are nice, but an alleged flagon of alleged Jolly Roger in the alleged mush shows a little more alleged imagination, don't you think? It certainly shows a pleasing step-up from the common-or-garden pistol-whipping for which Da Brat previously pled guilty.

One can only hope this signals a new trend in Naughty Rapperism, with cutlasses, cannons and plank-walking becoming the new weapons du jour. Fingers crossed.

Naughty rappers: The Game faces weapon charges, then details his Britney Spears / 50 Cent fantasies

It is not cool to own a gun. It is also not cool to carry that gun in a school zone, or to exhibit that gun to an officer of the law. Oh, and making criminal threats? Also not cool. Let's just get that out of the way.

Now, The Game was in court recently for a hearing relating to - huh! - making criminal threats, possessing a firearm in a school zone, and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of an officer. He's already pleaded guilty to the charges, but he doesn't seem to be letting it affect his spirits. Let's have a look at what Mr.Game said to TMZ outside the courthouse.

Naughty Rappers Update: Diddy, Foxy Brown, Nas bring the (alleged) naughtiness

foxy.gif

It's been a busy old week for hip-hop's (alleged) troublemakers. Let's see what they've (allegedly) been up to. (Allegedly.)

- Diddy Puff Combs has been a bit quiet on the old trouble front recently, excepting his slightly rapey ad for "Unforgiveable Woman" recently. This story details a man's claim that P. Puff Sean punched him out in a club, which is obviously preposterous. Would Diddy Comb really punch someone when he's got 76 bodyguards to do it for him?
