Sex Pistols to play intimate gig before Isle Of Wight Festival

Have you noticed that most articles on The Sex Pistols feature a snap of the band in their '70s pomp? That's because these days, they look like a ridiculous troupe of sulky pantomime dames. So with that, we're not bucking any trends and giving you a vintage snapshot.

So why this talk of The Sex Pistols? Well, the punks will play a warm-up show for their Isle Of Wight Festival show in Birmingham this summer, it has been confirmed. The re-reformed snot projectors are to play a tiny gig (for an act of their size at least) at the Birmingham Academy on June 11, performing in the city for the first time in over 30 years.

Isle of Wight - Officially the Best Fest

This year’s Isle of Wight festival has been named Best Major Festival by voters for the UK Festival Awards 2007. The Isle of Wight beat tough competition from nine other major events including both Carling Weekenders, Global Gathering, Glasto and V Festival.

Amy Winehouse performs Rehab @ Isle of Wight 2007

Listen, forget what you've read in the tabloids about Amy Winehouse. Basically, her last LP, Back To Black is great, and sounds like it sprung itself outta Memphis in the mid-sixties. Her festival period has been a little ropey with some dazzling shows... and some that have seen her, well, suffering from a little too much enjoyment. Here's Ms Winehouse performing Rehab at the Isle of Wight 2007 festival.

Rolling Stones perform Start Me Up @ Isle Of Wight Festival 2007

You don't need much in the way of explanation for this. Kings of rock and roll, The Rolling Stones sing Start Me Up at this years Isle Of Wight Festival. I'm watching them in Eire next month. I can't wait.

Tangerine Fields provide pre-pitched tents for lazy festivalgoers - bookings still available for T in the Park, Latitude, Carling Weekend

If you got to Glastonbury on the Thursday full of smug happiness you'd bagged a bargain on your tent, and left on Monday a soaked-though, mud-coated, cursing mess, then you'll think Tangerine Fields is a great idea.

They're a tent company who'll rock up early to your chosen festival, pitch your tent and it'll be all warm* and cosy* by the time you arrive.

*inside, at least. They're not magicians.

Isle of Wight Festival: In-Tents Questioning

Emma Abrook went to the Isle of Wight festival this year, and on her return she agreed to answer our probing questions. The picture you see is not of Emma. It is of Matt Bellamy of Muse and his funny silver guitar. Just to clear that up.

2. Which festival have you recently attended?

Isle of Wight 2007.

3. Have you attended this festival before? If yes, how does this year compare?

Yes, and it wasn’t as good as previous years. Organisation was poor.

4. Which act gave the best performance, and why?

Muse. Incredible musical range and stunning stage set-up.

Experiential marketing is after your festival dollars (along with O2, Strongbow, Ray-Ban, Fender...)

Festival time brings the opportunity for lots of fun for girls and boys of all ages. It also allows firms to launch a plethora of marketing onslaughts which, when you read the details of them, leave you feeling slightly less warm and fuzzy about the festival season. But would these events attract as many amazing acts without such heavy investment from companies?

O2 Wireless takes place this weekend in London and Leeds. The fact that I've been able to name the festival without using the word "festival", and through the use of just a brand name, seems indicative of the impact of corporate sponsorship on live music in the twenty-first century. And you can be assured the input from O2 will not end once you walk through the gate, either.

Weekend festival round-up: Isle of Wight, Download, Rock Ness

The festival season got well and truly under way at the weekend, with Download, Isle Of Wight and Rock Ness all taking place.

Download organisers are taking advantage of a successful event by making tickets for next year's festival available this Friday. This year the rock extravaganza was closed by Iron Maiden, and all manner of related news and video goodness can be found on the official site.

Isle Of Wight boasted a performance by Muse, and judging by their show I'd say they'll fill the new Wembley Stadium with ease next weekend. You can see their performance of "Starlight" after the jump. Meanwhile one of the big stories was Amy Winehouse duetting with Mick Jagger (and escaping un-impregnated, hopefully).

Tickets Still Available For Isle Of Wight Festival

When it comes to headline acts, it doesn't get much bigger (or older) than The Rolling Stones. Their combined age may be 28,207, but I would personally love to see them in the flesh, even if it is all wrinkly.

OK, enough with the age jokes.

The Isle Of Wight Festival has the Stones as one of their headliners this year, alongside Muse, Kasabian, Groove Armada, Keane and Snow Patrol. The 3-day event runs from June 8th to June 10th (i.e, this weekend).
