Festivals round up: Big Chill, Live at Loch Lomond, Lollapalooza - that was the weekend that was

For once during an English festival summer, the weather was flipping gorgeous. So that means everything ran completely smoothly at the weekend’s festivals, right? Well almost…

- Beautiful weather meant that The Big Chill went pretty much without a hitch… but also without Mika. He pulled out at the last minute, blaming a potentially career threatening throat infection. As dramatic as that sounds, it did not wash with unsympathetic fans, according contactmusic. It seems like a valid excuse, but then again Mika had (rather unwisely) previously announced he wasn’t exactly looking forward to the summer’s festivals, so who knows!

This weekend's festival preview round up

Ding ding, all aboard for a round up of what's going on this weekend in the world of festivals. (Big Chill info is in a separate post, just in case you're panicking).

Live At Loch Lomond – The new 2 day festival plays host to Faithless, 2manyDJs, Calvin Harris and Feeder as well as local electro folksters Kobai. The latter are hoping to avoid a repeat of the traffic madness that nearly saw them miss their slot at T In The Park. The only obstacle this time round is that a Sunday evening slot apparently gives them too much leeway to get wasted before their call time. How very rock n roll.

The Electric Gardens - nearly sold out!

The Electric Gardens festival, held at Mount Ephraim Gardens, near Canterbury, Kent from Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of August has added two more acts to the line-up just as the last of the tickets are being sold.

Joining the Happy Mondays, The Rakes, The Young Knives and The Maccabees, will be Milburn, when they take to the main stage on the Sunday of the festival. Also added to the line-up is Newton Faulkner, who will play on the 2nd stage on the Saturday. These are joining Supergrass, The Pipettes, The Young Knives, Plan B, Patrick Wolf, New Young Pony Club and more.

70% of all tickets have sold out and next Thursday (2nd August at 5pm) will be the final day to purchase weekend with camping tickets. Camping tickets will not be available to buy after this time or available to buy on the day. Tickets are priced at £75 for the weekend with camping, £70 without camping, Saturday is £37.50, Sunday is £40, and campervans cost £25 - click here to buy.

Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse - The festivals where you can catch Nationwide Mercury Prize nominees

You may have noticed that the shortlist for this year's Nationwide Mercury Awards was announced the other day. So it's only a couple of months until the papers go mental over the odds of the potential winners, in marked contrast to how much the record-buying public actually cares.

If, however, you would like to see which festivals all these marvellous folk are playing, you may do so below because I've typed that very information there.

Bat For Lashes - ‘Fur And Gold’

You can catch Bat (pictured), or "Natasha" as she's know to her friends, at Field Day, Connect Festival, Electric Picnic and Bestival. She's also playing Rock En Seine if you happen to be in France towards the end of August.

The Young Knives - 'Voices of Animal and Men'

Ashby de la Zouch's favourite sons have already played Glastonbury and will also be playing the Redhill Park Music Festival, the Electric Gardens Festival, Leeds / Reading and the Underage festival at London's Victoria Park.

Jamie T - ‘Panic Prevention’

Jamie T will be inspiring severe brappage at Lowlands, Leeds / Reading and also this weekend's Benicassim fest in Spain.

ClubClass Dance Tent announced for Electric Gardens Festival

Puritans may baulk at the idea of the 4/4 invading their hippie-fest, but dance music has firmly established itself on the festival circuit. With that, The Electric Gardens festival, back for its second year at Mount Ephraim Gardens, near Canterbury, Kent from Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of August has announced the line-up for the ClubClass Dance Tent.

Performing on the Saturday are Slam, Stanton Warriors, Nic Fanciulli, Meat Katie, Mike Pickering (who will be playing a Hacienda Set), A Skillz (Finger Lickin’), while the Sunday has Danny Howells, Funk D’Void and Justin Robertson (pictured). They join the previously confirmed acts of headliners Supergrass and Happy Mondays, plus Calvin Harris, The Rakes, The Pipettes, The Young Knives, Plan B, Patrick Wolf, New Young Pony Club, Jack Penate, and more - click here for all the details.
