This weekend's festival preview round up

Ding ding, all aboard for a round up of what's going on this weekend in the world of festivals. (Big Chill info is in a separate post, just in case you're panicking).

Live At Loch Lomond – The new 2 day festival plays host to Faithless, 2manyDJs, Calvin Harris and Feeder as well as local electro folksters Kobai. The latter are hoping to avoid a repeat of the traffic madness that nearly saw them miss their slot at T In The Park. The only obstacle this time round is that a Sunday evening slot apparently gives them too much leeway to get wasted before their call time. How very rock n roll.

Rhythm Festival – Organisers are capitalising on the great weekend weather forecast for Beds by selling tickets on the gate to make up for a lack of pre-bookings. In a child-friendly move, entry is free for the under 5s and 5 – 16s get in for just a tenner. The line up includes Hothouse Flowers, Levellers, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel and Seth Lakeman - but not Ike Turner. He’s pulled out because the arrangements didn’t please him. Maybe he couldn’t get any M&Ms; with the green ones removed.

Big Green Gathering – The Somerset festival aimed at “ethical music fans” is entirely ticket free this year to avoid paper wastage, so organisers are reminding people not to forget their mobile phones. Entry is by text ticket only for one of the first times in the UK - so no phone, no go. Sun is forecast so if you want to find out how to reduce your carbon footprint while watching bands like Gadjo, Maybe Myrtle Turtle, The Savage Jazz and The Tarka Groove Experiment, the Mendip Hills are calling.

Electric Gardens – Mercury Music Prize nominees The Young Knives are excited about heading to Kent this weekend to join the likes of Supergrass and the Happy Mondays – though they’ll probably be avoiding the free energy drinks. The self-styled 'boutique festival' bills itself as less commercial than V and has just announced final additions to the bill in the form of Reverend & The Makers and Milburn. But with online and camping tickets sold out, you’ll be hard pushed to grab a late entry.

Innocent Village Fete – Organisers are reminding disorganised music fans that you can still nab a ticket to see The Epstein, Geno Washington, Kitsch In Sync and Ben Westbeech all weekend. Just buy online here, print out your confirmation email and Bob’s your uncle. Marvellous.
