Festivals round-up: Everyone loves Latitude, Live Earth most watched entertainment event in history, Jarvis has the Eye of the Tiger

latitude.gif- The opinions on Latitude, in general, seem to come down on the side of "delightful" (apart from the litter). Even a self-confessed miserablist enjoyed it

- Hold onto your hats - an MP went on a jolly to Glasto courtesy of the BBC and some people aren't pleased

- Guilfest gets some better press from The Sun, after reports of problems with speaker stacks and, well, open sewers

Festivals round-up: Latitude now sold out, Glasto too grown-up, Lovebox plan to halve world hunger

latitudelogoMain.gif- This year's Latitude has now sold out. No mean feat in such a competitive festival landscape

- You can get a preview to the grown-up arts fest here, or a local paper gives some handy tips here

- Talking of "grown-up", that's a tag that's been thrown at Glastonbury - by its own organiser

- Lovebox Weekender is taking part in an ActionAid initiative which plans to halve world hunger by 2015

- One of the risks Live Earth ran was bad headlines in several countries - unfortunately that's how it's transpired, with viewers apparently switching off in Australia and the U.S in addition to here in the UK. But hey, at least organic soap sales are up

Somewhat downbeat Festivals round-up: Live Earth backlash, T in the Park spirits predictably undampened

gore.gif

- Is it just me, or does the tide seem to have turned against Live Earth somewhat? The Rio event was cancelled... then un-cancelled, amongst claims that it has been under-promoted

- Meanwhile Forbes is the latest publication to do the whole "Just How Green Is Live Earth?" thing... and Arctic Monkeys admit that their absence from the bill is because they would see their participation as hypocritical given their shows' production requirements. Unlike Madonna, presumably...

- And to top it all off, the New York event isn't even bloody in New York!

- T in the Park looks like getting off to a wet start, but guess what? It won't dampen anyone's spirits (I swear that is the 382nd time I've seen that cliche used in the last month). Police at the event are appealing to cokeheads to spurn their nose candy for ethical - as opposed to legal - reasons. Good luck with that, rozzers

- As we mentioned yesterday, Fflam has been postponed; now the organisers are indulging in a touch of damage limitation as they try and find new dates for the three-day event

Festivals round-up: Oxegen survival guide, Guilfest movie, Live Earth debutants, T in the Park weather, new Latitude stage

ludacris.gifSo many fests, so little time. If you're going to any of the below events here are some nuggets to nibble on:

- "You know me, I'm all about saving lives." Bono? Sting? Nah - Ludacris, who appears on the US leg of Live Earth. Yes, that Ludacris

- It's a point more and more people seem to be making - Live Earth will need to clean up its own mess to be taken seriously as an environmentally conscious event.

- The Oxegen festival takes place this weekend in Co Kildare, Ireland. You know what that means, don't you? Survival Guide time

- There will be rain at T in the Park, you won't be surprised to hear. What may shock you is that you can also expect some sun, according to the met office. That's what happens if you get a Beach Boy in

Festivals round-up: Diana concert schmaltz / entertainment ratio, Bassey and The Killers benefit from Glastonbury appearances

princes.gif
- The New York Daily News gets it about right on the Diana concert - equal parts schmaltz and entertainment. I loved watching the middle-aged mums mouthing the wrong lyrics along to everything

- Shirley Bassey and The Killers are the big winners sales-wise following their appearances at Glastonbury

- Riderwatch update - Snoop Dogg knows how to do it (allegedly, etc). And at a charity gig, to boot

- Don't forget to enter our competition to win Live Earth tickets for the London event

Festivals Update: Spice Girls sad to miss Diana concert, The Guardian guide to boutique festivals, possible T in the Park travel chaos

spicegirls.gif- The Spice Girls wanted to reform in time for the Diana Memorial Concert this weekend, but conflicting schedules would not allow it

- A rail strike is threatening travel chaos for the opening day of T In The Park

- The Istanbul leg of Live Earth has been cancelled due to lack of funds. Don't worry though, Turkish people - they're putting up big tellies for you to watch

- The Guardian has a handy guide to "boutique" festivals today - it includes Green Man, Wakestock and The Secret Garden Party

- Preston won't let a little thing like divorce get in the way of performing at Kent Music Festival this weekend, the trooper

- Underworld will headline Wild In The Country this weekend - you can read an interview with them here

Win Live Earth tickets with Shiny Media in association with MSN

Beastie-Boys.gifGood golly gosh, have we here at Shiny Media got a competition for you.

Live Earth, the massive worldwide music event designed to raise awareness of global warming, is happening on 7th July. The London leg of the event is taking place at the magnificent new Wembley Stadium in north London. If we were to list all of the artists performing on the day we'd probably miss the concert, but suffice it to say they include Beastie Boys, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Razorlight, Genesis, Snow Patrol, Spinal Tap, Kasabian and Metallica. The concert will also be available to view live online at www.liveearth.msn.com/concerts.

Tickets for the gig sold out within approximately 2 milliseconds of being put on sale, but thanks to Live Earth official online partners MSN we have a pair to give away to one lucky reader.

Live Earth (London) billing finalised

earth12.jpgOne thing that all festivals have in common are that they take place on the planet Earth. Of course, there may be others in distant galaxies but we haven't been invited (apart from that slight acid overdose I had some years ago). While I'm mentioning our planet, it neatly brings me to more news of Live Earth which sets out to raise awareness of our orb's plight in the face of thousands of musicians burning up the sky in their private jets... uh... hang on...

Anyway, more acts have been added to the Live Earth (London) billing. Metallica, Kasabian, Pussycat Dolls and Terra Naomi join the London Leg of the 7/7/07 Concerts to Combat Global Warming, adding to an already glittering line-up of stars. (Read over for the full bill)
