Vote in the Festival Awards and win a prize!

reeeading.jpgThe summer is over and festival season has officially come to an end. Now it's time for you to vote, which Festival was the highlight of your summer! The UK Festival Awards will be taking place in Central London (where else?) on November 6th and is the industry’s only awards voted for solely by the people who really matter – the fans. Although it's unclear whether those that matter - the fans - are allowed in.

With so many festivals to choose from brace yourself for a hard decision. There are over 20 categories to vote in this year, including Best New Festival so it’s not all about the big guns. The UK has arguably the most vibrant festival scene in the world, and it is time to honour those who made this year a little more special. Have your say and set the standard for next year by voting now at www.festivalawards.com. As well as making a difference to the festival scene, your vote will also qualify you for an exclusive money-can’t-buy prize draw to win a pair of tickets to every winning festival in 2008! You can vote on a whole host of things, from Best Act to Best New Festival... and even Best Toilets. Sadly, we aren't in that category...

Man behind Download festival sensationally dismissed

galbraith.jpg

Live Nation, the company behind Download and O2 Wireless Festivals, have sensationally dismissed their managing director, Stuart Galbraith for conspiring with their biggest rivals. The company chose to take the decision amid the speculation that Galbraith was leading a defection of employees to direct rivals the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG).

He was sacked with immediate effect for a “breach of contract” and reportedly given five minutes to leave the office. Sounds like something from a film!

Festivals round-up: Latitude and Indian Summer brighten rather than dampen spirits, problems mar Guilfest, Marilyn Manson footage from Download

waynecoyne.gif- A speaker stack collapsed at Guilfest on Friday, and the comments below this story suggest that while the festival was designed to be mud-free there are other mucky elements they need to look at sorting out

- Observer Music Monthly has a focus on a few of the big events that have taken place this year. Glastonbury this year was "amazing", according to Emily Eavis (but then she would say that, wouldn't she?). Also interviewed are Damon Albarn and Johnny Borrell

- Latitude's growing reputation won't have been harmed by - whaaaat?? - good weather. CSS were among the many acts who impressed Uncut.co.uk (who are one of the festival's sponsors)

Festivals round-up (ROCK edition): Pearl Jam to testify for Roskilde families, Dave Mustaine is lovely, heavy metal addiction exists

vedder.gif- Pearl Jam will testify on the behalf of families who lost loved ones in the 2000 tragedy at Roskilde

- Dave Mustaine of Megadeath may have fallen out with everyone ever over the years, but judging by his message to Download fans he's a little sweetie

- Rage Against The Machine will be headlining the Vegoose festival in Las Vegas, in case you happen to be in that part of the world in October

- Finally - if you feel compelled to blast Slayer while at work, you may be able to use this excuse

Festivals round-up: Hot Chip go Wild In The Country, Ricky Gervais to rock Wembley

hotchip.gif- Hot off the presses (OK, almost a week after it was announced) - this weekend's Wildchild Outside festival in London has changed venues from Shoreditch to King's Cross. It will be familar ground for folk who have been to TDK Cross Central before

- Also Wild-related, and also occurring this weekend, is Wild In The Country. It's taking place at Knebworth and the line-up is an electro-dance fan's wet dream - Hot Chip, Justice, Simian Mobile Disco and 2ManyDJs are all on the bill. The £40 tickets are still available here if you fancy 'avin' it

- Rockworld.tv will be screening two shows this Friday full of interviews with acts who performed at Download. Interviewees include My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds To Mars, Enter Shikari, Megadeth and Slayer. You can find the channel online or on Sky Digital channel 368 - the shows go out at 7pm and 12am.

- Does the Concert For Diana count as a festival? Who cares when it means that Ricky Gervais and Mackenzie Crook will be performing "Free Love On The Freelove Freeway" at Wembley Stadium this Sunday?

- At the same event Tom Jones will perform with Aerosmith axe legend Joe Perry

- Last week Lost Weekend wrote about the French festival Eurockeennes. It's happening this weekend if you fancy your chances at the last minute - the line-up est tres bien

Download festival website attracted almost 1 million hits

linkinpark.gifWe mentioned prior to its staging that the Download festival would be offering more multimedia content than ever before (appropriate, given its name). Well it looks like offering free webcast streaming did the website no harm - Billboard.biz reports that the site had 961,000 unique visitors over the weekend of the festival, including 188,585 unique webcast viewers.

Unsurprisingly given the size of their audience worldwide, Iron Maiden proved the biggest draw for those logging in to view the free live feed. 80% of the acts performing at Download agreed to have their sets streamed - but they did not include My Chemical Romance, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, DragonForce or Jared Leto's band 30 Seconds To Mars. It would be interesting to know the reasons behind these acts' refusals - were they down to commercial reasons, or performance-related anxieties...?

My Chemical Romance get bottled again at Download '07

Every single time My Chemical Romance take to a festival stage, they are seemingly met with a shower of plastic bottles. This summer, at the Download Festival, it was no different.

Download Festival: In-Tents Questioning

niki.gifThis, readers, is a special occasion. My Chemical Toilet's first In-Tents Questioning. Savour this moment. Savour it good. Our first interviewee is Niki Jones, 29, from London. Niki went to Download and sampled the rock. He survived, and bravely answered our questions.

1. Kindly tell us your name, age and where you’re from. Now.

Niki Jones. 29. London.

2. Which festival have you recently attended?

Download.

3. Have you attended this festival before? If yes, how does this year compare?

Yes, it was about the same as previous years.

4. Which act gave the best performance, and why?

Motley Crue. Tight, energetic, played virtually a greatest hits set, blatantly refuse to act their age.

Download 2007 reviews - My Chemical Romance hit the bottle again

download.gifThe reviews from Download have been coming in this week, with Iron Maiden gaining universal acclaim for their festival-closing set. The same can't be said for poor old my Chemical Romance, who attracted the bottle boys once again. If there was ever any doubt, the treatment of MCR confirms that a chart-topping album doesn't necessarily equate to rock respect.

Weekend festival round-up: Isle of Wight, Download, Rock Ness

downloadmoshing.gifThe festival season got well and truly under way at the weekend, with Download, Isle Of Wight and Rock Ness all taking place.

Download organisers are taking advantage of a successful event by making tickets for next year's festival available this Friday. This year the rock extravaganza was closed by Iron Maiden, and all manner of related news and video goodness can be found on the official site.

Isle Of Wight boasted a performance by Muse, and judging by their show I'd say they'll fill the new Wembley Stadium with ease next weekend. You can see their performance of "Starlight" after the jump. Meanwhile one of the big stories was Amy Winehouse duetting with Mick Jagger (and escaping un-impregnated, hopefully).

Download Festival truly multi-metal-media

BruceDickinson.gifMetal legends Iron Maiden will have their headline performance at next weekend's Download festival streamed to fans worldwide as it happens, reports Blabbermouth.net. The Maiden, due to appear on Sunday 10th June, are apparently breaking a record by topping the bill for a fourth time at the festival formerly known as "Donington Monsters Of Rock", with the streaming of their performance presented free to fans around the world. And before you non-metal fans snort into your skinny jeans, consider this - Iron Maiden have sold over 70 MILLION ALBUMS worldwide.
