Download festival website attracted almost 1 million hits

linkinpark.gifWe mentioned prior to its staging that the Download festival would be offering more multimedia content than ever before (appropriate, given its name). Well it looks like offering free webcast streaming did the website no harm - Billboard.biz reports that the site had 961,000 unique visitors over the weekend of the festival, including 188,585 unique webcast viewers.

Unsurprisingly given the size of their audience worldwide, Iron Maiden proved the biggest draw for those logging in to view the free live feed. 80% of the acts performing at Download agreed to have their sets streamed - but they did not include My Chemical Romance, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, DragonForce or Jared Leto's band 30 Seconds To Mars. It would be interesting to know the reasons behind these acts' refusals - were they down to commercial reasons, or performance-related anxieties...?

I know for a fact 30 Seconds To Mars' set was recorded, and that band has never, ever refused to broadcast for it's fans. Their set was in fact supposed to be shown. It was advertised as such, and then.. poof, nothing. For those viewing the fest that were web-bound, it was a sham. A lot of fans were disappointed, not because the bands "refused" to let their set be shown, but because they just weren't shown. I'm never wasting my time with this festival again.
