Festivals round up: Big Chill, Live at Loch Lomond, Lollapalooza - that was the weekend that was

For once during an English festival summer, the weather was flipping gorgeous. So that means everything ran completely smoothly at the weekend’s festivals, right? Well almost…

- Beautiful weather meant that The Big Chill went pretty much without a hitch… but also without Mika. He pulled out at the last minute, blaming a potentially career threatening throat infection. As dramatic as that sounds, it did not wash with unsympathetic fans, according contactmusic. It seems like a valid excuse, but then again Mika had (rather unwisely) previously announced he wasn’t exactly looking forward to the summer’s festivals, so who knows!

Lollapalooza 2007 - the best line-up of 2007?

pearl-jam.jpgAre you in America? Are going tonight? Well, if you don't know already, Perry Farrell's Lollapalooza is about to kick off tomorrow (August 3rd - 5th) in Grant Park in Chicago, and as ever, it's got a stellar line-up.

For your buck, you get Daft Punk, Pearl Jam, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, Muse, Patti Smith, The Roots, Iggy and The Stooges, King of Leon, The Black Keys (well worth watching), Amy Winehouse, LCD Soundsystem, the astounding Black Angels and loads more. Sounds like a great weekend to me. You can get your tickets from the very swish official website, but it might be a bit on the late side now.

"Lollapalooza Idol"? Unsigned bands offered chance to play festival

Lollapalooza.jpg

Lollapalooza, the legendary US alt-rock festival founded by Perry Farrell, is offering unknown bands the opportunity to perform at this year's festival. The (quite convoluted) entry process includes Farrell himself, who will hand-pick bands at various points of the competition. The first step is to upload an MP3 to Lollapalooza's website... Whether you're likely to get Mr. Farrell to pay your airfare to Chicago for the latter stages is something you'll have to ask the organisers...
