Kid Cudi's "Day 'N' Nite" gets a new, non-bootylicious video

This is the original version of Kid Cudi's recent hit "Day 'N' Nite", which Crookers took and remixed into a club smash. The weird thing about that song was the video took little notice of the lyrics, which talk of a lonely stoner and aren't necessarily all that happy-clappy. To see the song put alongside Nuts-style booby-babes was a bit odd, and reportedly didn't please Kid Cudi too much.

The new video for the original version is more in keeping with the lyrical content, showing Mr. Cudi getting all confuzzled by animated beverages in the supermarket, presumably because he has been mashing his mind with DRUGZ.

Georgia's Eurovision 2009 entry unlikely to trouble Russian pop charts

Georgia's entry for Eurovision 2009 - which will be held in Moscow - is called "We Don't Wanna Put In", and is a thinly-veiled dig at Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Nothing can go wrong with that. Nobody who speaks out against Russia these days gets into any bother at all. Sure, the countries had a bit of a war-type situation over South Ossetia in 2008, but who didn't? I'm positive Russia will take this gentle ribbing in Europe's largest annual televised song contest in good humour, even if it is happening on their own soil.

I'm not sure we can expect the same cuddly approach from The Trammps though, whose "Disco Inferno" provides rather blatant "inspiration" to Stefane & 3G's ditty. Those 70s disco acts can be fucking brutal.

Listen to "We Don't Wanna Put In" after the jump.

iPhone technoBox app set to create nation of mobile techno DJs :(

iphone.jpgSo, someone you know has iPhone. You're happy for them. You've emitted an acceptable number of "ooh"s and "ahh"s over iPhone's shiny loveliness. You're a little bit jealous. That's perfectly natural.

Then iPhone starts impacting on your social life. Nights in the pub become distinctly iPhone-centric. If your friend isn't showing you what iPhone can do, they're Tweeting, Facebooking, emailing, YouTube-ing.

Go to the toilet and you know that when you return you're going to need to wait about another half an hour before your companion can tear him/herself away from iPhone. You left them alone with iPhone, you see. Never leave anyone alone with iPhone.

Well, pretty soon your friend's antisocial iPhone use is going to extend beyond social networking - to creating music. And for that, you will need to thank technoBox.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Zero" could be a chart hero

yeah_yeah_yeahs.jpg

Stereogum posted the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs song "Zero", from forthcoming album It's Blitz, the other day.

The comments from the none-more-indie crowd are predictably cynical because the song - gasp - features synths and quite shiny production. These elements, of course, mean it could be a huge mainstream hit. Especially if it ends up being plastered over 90210 or Gossip Girl or something. You know, one of those scenes in a club when somebody's just had their drink spiked?

It might not instantly sound like a hit, but those synths will be stuck in your head very soon...

Hervé's Ghetto Bass bangs like a barn door, or something else very banging

herve.jpgThat chap to the right, crying like a girl while pretending to have gotted something in his eye, is Hervé. You might know him as The Count from off of The Count And Sinden, who released that amazing "Beeper" banger last year with Kid Sister. It was the one that went "hitmeonmybeeper beepah beepah", and so on.

Despite being described in press releases as French, and despite having all these silly names, Hervé is actually an Englisher. But he does make the kind of music like you might expect to find on French label Ed Banger.

Air France's "No Excuses" video is "visually stunning"/"rather boring"

Like the video for one of their previous single "Collapsing At Your Doorstep", "No Excuses" focuses on man's attempts to harness nature's capricious characteristics for his own ends. While that clip featured wind turbines, here a surfer does battle with the unforgiving sea beneath a slate-grey sky.

Or: this is four minutes of a bloke surfing.

N.E.R.D "featuring Pharrell Williams" to headline Lovebox Weekender 2009

lovebox_weekender_2009.jpgSo the good news is that Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo will be headlining Lovebox Weekender 2009 alongside Duran Duran and, unsurprisingly, organisers Groove Armada.

Also appearing will be Friendly Fires, Florence & The Machine, Simian Mobile Disco and Ladyhawke among others. The event takes place at London's Victoria Park on 18th & 19th July.

The bad news, for pop ego-watchers at least, is that the press release lists N.E.R.D as "N.E.R.D featuring Pharrell Williams".
