It was an outburst that would have made Mariah Carey blush with pride. They might look like a grizzled bunch of farmers that you might otherwise expect to see having a dust-up outside The Fighting Cocks, but with just three days to go, The Wurzels have flounced out of Glastonbury, complaining that the stage they were set to go on wouldn't allow them to use their own sound engineers.

Tommy Banner from the band griped that "other novelty acts like Rolf Harris have been on better stages and we think we deserve it." So you won't get to hear "Oi've gawt a brand noo comboine harrvesterr" this year (ask your dad). The BBC is reporting that the Wurzels will play the festival next time around, as long as they get a better stage.

We, in Sgt. Pepper's Only Dart Board Band, are saddened to hear that the highly esteemed Wurzels will not be sharing the bill with us on the Bandstand at the Glastonbury Festival. Obviously their enormous fan base will be bitterly disappointed to have bought Glastonbury tickets, only to discover the bad news at such a late hour. We have decided, therefore, to devote a segment of our set to performing Beatles songs in the almost inimitable style of The Wurzels. Rehearsals are currently progressing well for the following classics: "I Am The Wurzel"; "I Wanna Hold Your Farmhand"; "I Should Have Known Butter"; and, of course- "Loose Hay in the Sty With Diamonds".

We do hope this helps a little to alleviate the disappointment.

The Wurzels are a great, fun band, who know their 'level' and fair play to them for sticking to their principles. I just watched some of their videos on www.thewurzels.com and I defy you not to smile!
