Things to look forward to at this weekend's Big Chill

Eastnor Castle Deer Park in Herefordshire’s Malvern Hills is warming up for this weekend’s Big Chill festival – though I use ‘warming’ merely in terms of excited anticipation, rather than heating up the globe.
Fresh from taking the festival global in April when they did a two day stint in Goa, Big Chill organisers are back on UK soil and ready to party – in a chilled out, non confrontational fashion, of course.
The thirteenth run aims to be the greenest yet, with flyers from sustainable forests and their own environmental initiative (Leave No Trace). They’re working harder than ever with the Global Cool charity to reduce emissions, particularly those caused by transport to and from the event – so expect a fiver charge if you’re wanting to park a car. If you’re feeling brave though, secure bike storage is offered free of charge.
In another green initiative, don’t expect to swagger round with a laminated lanyard swinging from your neck this year. Souvenir programmes will be available onsite, but if you don’t want to risk parting company with it at 3am in a stranger’s tent, go green and compile your own itinerary online and then bring it along.
The Big Chill may not yet be carbon negative like the Summer Sundae Weekender but international singer Remo Fernandes says performing at such a green festival is an honour.
Latest pictures from the site here show tents and structures going up amid a sea of dry, green grass - excellent news for those with an aversion to the mudbaths that have dogged recent UK festivals.
If that whets your appetite, there is some entertainment on offer for early comers. On Thursday night (2nd) Tom Middleton will sneak in and open the festival ahead of the advertised date with a special sunset show on Celestial Radio – broadcasting from a yacht moored on a lake onsite. If you’re onsite in time, organisers recommend you head to the lake with an FM radio and tune it to 87.7FM to join in the fun.
On Friday things kick off proper and from then on it’s non stop until Sunday - Mika, Mr Hudson & The Library, The Go! Team, Mr Scruff, Norman Jay and Isaac Hayes are amongst the delights on offer. There are going to be some beautiful sunrises and sunsets with that lot to enjoy.
