End Of The Road Festival Preview: Super Furry Animals and peacocks, probably

Roll up, roll up ladies and gents. As festival season draws to a close, there’s one last main attraction to take your money before the curtain falls until next year. The return of the aptly named End Of The Road Festival.

Now in its second year, the three day festival in the countryside on the Dorset / Wiltshire border bills itself as intimate - with “just” 5,000 tickets available. Organisers are very laid back, looking forward, they say to a ‘fun, wonderful, beautiful, friendly, relaxed, entertaining, super duper rocking festival’.

Last year’s debut EOTR was named Best New Festival in the 2006 UK Festival Awards, so there’s a lot to live up to this year. Luckily, organisers Sophia and Simon came prepared. Inspired to start the festival after a trip to Green Man, last year’s triumph was packed with quintessential English quirkiness – a working piano in an orchard, parrots and peacocks wandering around and no advertising whatsoever. Oh yes – and performances from Badly Drawn Boy, British Sea Power & Guillemots.

This year, expect that and more with bells on. Although Micah P Hinson has pulled out citing ongoing back problems, British Sea Power will return, alongside Super Furry Animals, Lambchop, The Bees and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci star Euros Childs. There’ll be a local stage, workshops, open mic sessions, organic food and an appearance from The Somerset Cider Bus. This festival is child friendly too, with special play areas and a segregated family camping site.

Tempted? Tickets are still available via Ticketmaster. You’ll need to pick them up on the gate, as no more will be sent out after September 5th. There’s a bargainous fiver shuttle bus running from Salisbury Train Station, but you will need to book in advance online. More info and some lovely music at the official End Of The Road Fest website.
